Hickey was on the Finsiders yesterday and he spoke a little about what they use the combine for and his draft strategy.

The first was the medical aspect, the second was the interview and last was the drills. He said they use game tape to make the majority of the eval and maybe use the combine drills/tape to break ties they have on players or to maybe sometimes find something they might have missed that they have to look at again.

Right at the end the interview however was the best nugget. Hickey was asked if he drafted for need or BPA and without hesitation he answered BPA. Just something to keep in mind when he Fins are on the clock.

I've heard the same from all GM's, their draft boards are pretty much set before the combine.

On M&M today, Danny Kannell referred to the interviews as being like speed dating in that you go from team to team answering the same things but that it does help some in being asked to visit the team for a much more detailed interview.

Best question at the combine- "Have you ever wet the bed?" LOL

He only ignores the medical aspect when it comes to free agency...LOL Sorry, just couldn't resist.

Most do say BPA and I remember Hickey emphasizing this last season. But reflecting on our 1st round pick last year in James I would be hard pressed to believe James was BPA at our pick. I love James don't get me wrong and super glad we have him but he comes across as a need pick more than a BPA pick.

I think utlilizing a BPA strategy works if it's clear you have big needs across the board. We honestly do not have many elite players. I think we pretty much can use help at every position. I would still focus on getting a bigger WR and then focus on defense, especially at LB, DT and CB.....but we also could use a TE an OG.

You have to go BPA but only to an extent.... If the BPA for us is a QB then we're not going in that direction. For us, I do think that the BPA will be at a position of need anyway, because we do have many needs, but I'm hoping for a big wide out. I'd love to see Kevin White or Davante Parker, but I'd be happy with DGB too.

I don't think Miami has gone BPA for at least a decade. You can go pick-by-pick to bear that out over the years. To some extent, maybe Ryan Tannehill was the BPA but Luke Kueckly (sp) might have been. James was solid, but Cook and a few others were better there. I think this is what has held the Dolphins back as they have been prisoners of need to the point where the team gets lesser talent to fill those needs.

I think the term BPA is overused and abused. GM's forget to add in our opinion for this team and our needs..
