A couple of observations from the Hickey press conference after the first day of mini-camp:
(a) He filled in for Joe Philbin to answer questions. Q) When was the last time that Jeff Ireland ever filled in for Joe? A) Never - I can't recall ever seeing it. This is a small point but it strikes me that our Head Coach and GM seem to be working together to improve the team. Hickey is part of the process. The easy thing would have been to not do the press conference in the heat. Leave it for Joe to do one tomorrow. He didn't take the easy option. That is pretty professional.
(b) Hickey was asked a direct question about which player looked best on kick and punt returns and was deliberately evasive. He didn't give any names. I thought that it was interesting that he was so guarded that he gave nothing away re Tom, Dick or Harry. Yes, they are looking to find acorns but he gave absolutely nothing away. Maybe the media training director is teaching him Belichick 101 - ie never say anything of value at a press conference.
