Lex Hilliard is an emerging running back prospect for the Dolphins, who are in Tampa tonight to play their third preseason game. Hilliard's brother-in-law is a Navy SEAL. That would seem to create a close contest not only in regard to which guy must abide by a higher standard of secrecy — one answering to the U.S. government and the other to Bill Parcells — but also about who has the cooler job.
"I'm always talking to him, trying to figure out what it's like," says Hilliard, who majored in sociology and criminology at Montana. "He's always asking me what this is like. I'm like, 'Hey, not about me, not about me.'"
This is what you can expect from Hilliard, a humble, self-described "homebody" who speaks softly and takes (and delivers) a big lick. But the reality is that plenty of South Florida football fans care to know more about him following his strong play in the first two preseason games. That play has spoken not only to his good work while on the practice squad, taking notes and biding time, but also to the apparently excellent work by the front office throughout the 2008 draft.
