he has a track record to getting to the playoffs. Then when we get there for the first game hire Cowher and fire Schott and make sure Cowher get the long term deal he wants. that gives cowher the year off and we will make the playoffs and then have a chance of win the superbowl. see there is still hope :D

Did Parcells decide yet whether he's coming back. I would take Parcells over Marty but I would take Marty over anyone we are now looking at

SON OF MARTY BOWS OUT OF MIAMI GIG

Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com reports that Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has withdrawn his name from consideration for the head-coaching job in Miami.

The move has sparked speculation from league observers that Brian is clearing out in anticipation that his father, Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer, will lose his current job -- and then make a run at the Dolphins' position.

And would it be overly cynical of us to wonder whether Brian has been serving an a straw man of sorts for Marty's candidacy, staking out a spot for him and keeping it warm until the old man is available to step in?

Even if that's not what's happening, the timeline invites such questions. On Sunday, Marty's team gets knocked out of the playoffs. On Monday, Brian pulls his name out of the running.

PHINZ RULE!!!!

Brian "I don't want to be a head coach at 33 because my father might be fired from his job, and then he might become a candidate for the same job as me, and the Dolphins might prefer me to him and..."

If that is what that kid really thought, to make a career decision based on rumor and speculation, then I'd rather see him on the Jets sideline than the Dolphins sideline.

I doubt Brian S. would want to become the head coach of san diego if they fire his father. i would think that Brian would say to san diego that you got rid of my father like dirt so why should i help you guys out in return.

Here is a more reasonable speculation, IMO:

The relationship between the coaches and Capers is important, because Capers today is expected to sign a three-year contract to remain the Dolphins' defensive coordinator. The contract, reportedly worth $8 million, will make Capers the NFL's highest-paid assistant.

Gailey and Capers crossed paths as coordinators with the Steelers for the 1994 season and had a good relationship. Mora sees Capers as a father-figure of sorts from the time Capers worked under Mora's father in the USFL and with the New Orleans Saints.

Those combined traits apparently made Schottenheimer realize he was running third in a three-horse field; thus, he removed himself from consideration.
