I was trying to think of when, in the history of the NFL either past or present, where there has been a backfield tandem such as Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. Tiki and Dayne where different, in that they had two totally different styles. Same with Csonka and Mercury Morris. It seems like we have two big running backs that can run with speed and power.

Are there any comparisons that you can think of, to see if this type of system has worked in the past. Might we be setting a new trend in the NFL? It seems like we could create some great mismatches with both these guys on the field at the same time.

What are your thoughts?

Icky Woods/James Brooks for the Bengals? Seemed to work pretty good for them...they went to the SB.

Cool thanks..Im gonna look them up..see how their offense did. Do you know the type of system they ran?

Geez.... that was like 17 years ago....I barely remembered their names:lol:

I dont recall ever seeing them both on the field at the same time.

Being that Sam Wyche was the head coach back then I imagine the system was some variation of the West Coast Offense.

carnell williams and ronnie brown? How's life up there in them frosty hills anyway?

!988...Cinci goes to the Superbowl with a regular season record of 12-4. Thats a big turnaround from the prior year when they finished 4-12.

James Brooks - Starting running back that year...pro bowl..listed at the HB spot ran for 931 Yds. Avg 5.3 ypc. Rookie running back Icky Woods listed at FB leads team with 1066 yds..5.1 ypc.

Esiason passes for 3572 yds..28 tds 14 ints ...97.4 rating.

Now, Im not saying this will happen to the fins..but there are some interesting parallels. 4-12 team gets a rookie rb..listed at fb most of the time..two runners rush for almost 1,000 yds each. They had very similar attempts...woods at 203....Brooks at 182. Obviously this opened things up for Esiason. Dont remember Boomer having a cannon of an arm.

Eddie Brown WR also exploded with 1232 yds that year.

Any thoughts?

I'm going with Christian Akoye and Barry Word. Akoye in particular used to run over defenses.

Kevin Mack/Ernest Byner of Cleveland Browns. both went over 1,000 rush yards in same season in 85. Remember Fins beat them from 21 to 3 and comeback big victory over Browns 24 to 21 in divisonal playoff game.
