Have the Dolphins gone too far with gutting the team? This was brought up by the announcers during the game last night. I realize all of our trades and releases have a specific reason but we have definitely lost some talent. Even if we hit 100% on drafts and free agents next year, we will still be quite devoid of NFL caliber players. Do we expect our first round QB to elevate the whole team?

This isn't designed for a 1 year turn around, at least I hope not. The "add a guy here and there and we should get int he playoffs" mentality is why we are where we are today.

Add as much talent as you can, find the right QB, make sure you have 10 picks every year in the draft, allow player to develop.

It may take 3 years to get the team to the point where they are consistently competitive, but they should start to show flashes nest year. The biggest mistake the team could make is going 7-9 next year and going off script to add big money player via free agency.

Tunsel trade creates a hole which will need to immediate be filled. The Fitzpatrick trade *at best* will be breakeven and unlikely that clueless Grier will draft a player with that much talent. All the 5th round and later picks that Grier got won’t result in anything more than possible special teamers. The cap space isn’t anything useful as a majority of teams have a ton of cap space and they will need to overpay mediocre free agents to come here.

Flores also has shown he really had absolutely nothing to do with the Patriots defense as they are a lot better now that he’s gone.

Priority 1: Pick the right QB.
Priority 2: Flip picks for future picks when possible, at least for the next 3 years or so.
Priority 3: Go into every draft with 9-10 picks min.
Priority 4: Draft well- and look, every team misses on picks. We will too. The Patriots do. Just try to get 4 starters out of those 10 picks, plus other good role players and special teamers. But minimize the blown first rounders.
Priority 5: Develop those players.
Priority 6: Don't give out stupid contracts.
Priority 7: Patience. It might be year 3 or 4 of this thing till we see a quality team. But this team is going to look so different next year. It will also take time for that new group of players to gel. I think 2021 we will start to get a good idea of what we will be looking like.

This is a very unique re-do. I can't remember any team ever going full roster gut like we have. At least we committed. I am a long time Cincinnati Reds fan since the Big Red Machine, and my Reds started their re-build a year too late and did it in half measures and they are not going to be competitive and will likely flounder for another decade. At least this team recognized what needed to be done, did not hesitate, and went full in. I know some people don't like what we are doing, but trust me, from a fan of a team who half-assed it and him-hawed around and settled for less because they waited, this Dolphins plan is a breath of fresh air. It sucks this year, but it's like ripping that band aid off- gotta do it.

Every post of yours is a knock on Flores or Grier. It gets old.

We'd be headed right back where we came from. Have to break that mentality and I agree, we're looking at a few years here with each year progressively getting better.

The hole was deep and dug many many years ago and doing the same thing season after season was not the solution. Are they on the right track now? Only time will tell but I agree its not a one year fix...we are talking progressively better every season from here I hope (I think we will go 0-16) but not really "winning" like we all want until 2023 at the earliest.

Not on FH. Some have already decided Wilkins is a bust. go-to some 'allowing time's means 2 games. That said, there IS tale t on the team and Miami doesn't need 20 new starters

Sounds accurate

Starter Needs: About 14
Team is gutted and not going to be easy to replace almost every position starter

QB I guess
RB 1-2
WR 2-3
OL 3-5 3 being generous
DL 2
LB 1-2
CB 2
SS 1
FS 1
