well that sucked...let's get to it

there was 2 concerns i had about this game going in...how we would handle kyle williams on the interior and the mike lb play with trusnick in there...well we failed with both

kyle williams killed our offense pretty much in the first half...i don't know who decided it was a good idea to leave williams one on one with shelley smith and have satele help with dareus instead but i know damn well we payed for it...first pass play of the game williams walks shelley smith right back into the qb as if on skates...later smith does what he does a plenty oversets and gets smoked two times clean to the qb...kyle williams killed our offense in the first half...we insert dallas thomas in the lineup he struggles with williams also in the 2nd half picks up a false start penalty has the qb moving off the spot you name it...this team needs a right guard cause we got a murderers row of interior dts in this division to face 2 times this year...sure wish billy turner was ready

mike lb play just awful...trusnick late all over the place no ability to move laterally gets no depth in zone drop it's embarrassing that's the best depth option this team has at mike...can anyone shoot a gap when clean at mike and make a tackle for loss??? this is a season long problem misi would have helped with some things for sure but he would also have issues in space all the same...awful mike lb play though...it's a MASSIVE weakness...

special teams just terrible...from a blocked punt to the decision to kick to spiller in the first place darren rizzi hide your head in shame...your kicker can barely get the ball in the endzone we've all heard of out kicking your coverage well sturgis underkicked his coverage on the td kick return...should have never kicked the damn ball to spiller in the first place...should have been making one of the up backs fair catch the damn thing all game long at like the 15...especially when your kicker despite the new rules can't kick the damn ball deep...even the punter was kicking the damn thing off the side of his foot all game long...add in a muffed punt off the face mask of landry and we got ourselves a disaster of a showing...

bill lazor what no damn tempo all game long??? i mean you practice all camp pumping in music to simulate road conditions etc and want to play fast and then we don't go fast at all the entire game...

every time we tried to work down the field off pa i saw some clean lb coming right up the middle unimpeded...it was as if they knew what we were calling they were messing up things for us so much off pa

nothing like satele giving away the snap with that men in black half head turn on every play...nah that sure can't be something for the d to key on...that's the answer to playing on the road in loud conditions??? who needed to practice with loud music pumping in when you got that reverse bobblehead action...

offensive tackle play yet again stellar in pass pro...thank god we got those two bookends...james just continues to ace tests in pass pro...outstanding awareness and recovery skills

thought the line communication was lacking especially on the interior...the bills couldn't get home on the edge so they started looping guys to the inside and our guys on the interior did not pick it up well and communicate...

ryan tannehill once again it comes down to execution and this is now 2 weeks that i found the qb subpar in that department...got a perfectly drawn up post route to the middle of the field after clay influenced the safety and wallace has won to the inside of the db down the middle just throw the ball out in front and to the center of the field and it's 6 points...instead he throws the damn ball too far to the outside and underthrown and wallace has to AGAIN slow down for the ball and try to play a game he's not gonna win and go up and fight for a jump ball...awful throw...no way around it...took points off the board

later we call a nice outside inside route with gibson who runs it perfectly 3rd down and 8 i think it was fires the ball over his head wide open after stepping into the throw no less that just can't happen...takes a potential td drive and turns it into a fg one and the first points of the game...poor execution by the qb on a well drawn up play call and we got what we wanted coverage wise...

still later 3rd and 4 i think he's got lamar miller in the flat for a easy catch and conversion flaring to the outside he never sets his feet pretty much executes his footwork like it's a damn screen and a jailbreak rush no less back pedaling the entire way throws the ball high and outside...sorry but that's garbage...what the heck happened to lazor cleaning up the footwork and as a result accuracy getting better we heard all offseason??? i wonder if this throw to a spot stuff has effected his game cause i swear i didn't see him miss like he's missed on easy stuff the last 2 years at this rate...

thats not to say he at times didnt get help from his teammates...charles clay drops a nicely designed play ball where he has rac opportunities...brian hartline after the game was over pretty much drops the best deep ball tannehill has probably ever thrown right thru his arms...

and lamar miller absolutely butchers a perfect call vs the perfect defense on 3rd down on a little under route down the seam where had he caught it he'd still be damn running...that was another 6 points taken off the board...although for some damn reason millers going to ground on the play i hope that was more about trying to catch it when it was dropping thru his legs more than it was about him going to ground to make the catch...cause that was bs if it was...he should have caught that puppy turned on that rediculous quick acceleration and scored...period...he had already beaten the angle of the outside corner trying to close to the inside and there was nothing but green grass and pay dirt in front of him...3rd down back that doesnt catch the ball...just lovely

qb held the ball too long on the 3rd sack only one i thought was on him...hughes on the edge loops to the inside ball must come out by then...on the qb...

nothing like playing scared at the end of the first half 2:20 left 3 time outs no two minute offense we sit on the ball and are content to go in down 9 nothing when we could have gotten in 2 minute tried to score and got the 2nd half kick for a 2 consecutive possessions...poor clock management we played scared...period

miamis got dion sims running routes down the field like he's a legit pass receiving mismatch option...uhhh bill if that's what you want from your primary in line tight end in this offense you might want to make getting a more dynamic one a priority this offseason...cause right now it's pretty much wasting downs...and i like dion sims that's
just not what he is...he works the underneath and can sit in zones but the further down the field he goes the less interesting he becomes...

knowshon moreno looked like dislocated elbow...sure hope we get him back soon...that was a big deal early in the game...damien williams showed some nice feet for his size some run thru contact and some decent vision...sees things better than lamar miller that's for sure

on defense i gave jelani jenkins another solid effort grade...thought he showed pretty well...probably the best looking lb this teams had thru 2 games...louis delmas i also gave high marks filled nicely rallied to the ball solid in coverage although he did get caught flat footed on a ej manuel missed td that was wide open...although it looked like that may have been a blown coverage...jimmy wilson seemed to think it was...

manuel tried to give us the ball on back to back plays but we just didnt make the plays...the first a poorly placed ball that grimes was gonna snag and maybe score but he got pulled down by the wr...imo should have been offensive pi...the second on a stare down vs 2 deep zone where because he stared at it will davis never sat down and just tracked his eyes the ball for a tipped ball and almost pick...outstanding ball awareness with will davis...probably his best trait...he gets his head around and finds the football...

brent grimes with an awesome get a hand in there while going to ground for a pass break up to watkins deep where the ball was placed perfectly...

offense finally scores a td and picks up some momentum defense reverts to 2013 form and immediately gives up a td drive...you can set your watch to that from our defense when we score it seems

going forward let's pick up the tempo on offense trust these offensive tackles one on one to handle guys (cause they've earned it) and help on the interior difference makers and this offense can score some points...this teams issues right now are interior oline right guard primarily and mike lb...neither may be fixable but lets work to hide them as much as we can...this team needs misi back bad

still i'm pretty confident this team can get to the bye week at 3-1 off what i see...both the next 2 opponents lack interior wrecking balls and i trust the tackles to handle their edge guys...poe is a damn good player for kc but he's not the upfield disruptor that the bills and jets have

qb needs to step up pass receivers need to catch the damn ball and make plays for their qb...bring in alex smith and that wrecked oline of theirs and hope like heck jamaal charles doesn't play and expose our mike lb all over the place in space

my god, I didn't wanna watch it when it was happening now you want me to read that debacle all over again??? Ugh

pretty much spot on in your review

Nicely timed. Something to read at work later :D

Jamaal Charles could indeed be a very bad thing for us right now... The injury bug seems to be hitting them too.. I'm pretty worried about Poe though no lie.

Tannehill really needs to pull it together cause I'm getting annoyed real fast

As always hoops excellent job...

Starting to get very concerned about Tannehill in this offense...seems like a duck out of water...

Timing is off, passes float or placed poorly...not sure if it is a game speed issue, or he just doesn't have it...

What did you think of the QB's decision-making?

We obviously saw that he was throwing behind guys or missing throws. I believe that gets better as his timing with the offense improves through experience, but it is what it is right now.

What I'm wondering is if you think Tannehill has taken any steps forward from a mental standpoint? I kind of feel like he has -- it looks like he is more consistently finding the right read, just not delivering the football.

Correctable, you think, or are you worried?

The lack of the up tempo is the biggest stick in my craw with the coaching staff. I was hoping they were saving it for Buffalo after Belichick downloaded our playbook but I guess not. They either don't believe in it as much as they led us to believe when Philbin first arrived or they're just too incompetent to implement it. Either way its pissing me off. We should have been ahead of the curve but now we might be the only team in the league that doesn't seem to run it.

i don't see any issues with the decision making...the balls not into coverage...the last pick at the end was nothing to me other than a qbr killer...but it doesnt matter how good the decision making is if you fail to freaking EXECUTE...and i'm seeing a lot of that thru 2 games...well i'm seeing potential scoring plays and big drive difference makers not capitalized on...by the qb

the placement has me confused...the balls too far inside even on ropes it seems or just slightly off...not sure what to make of it...he's got mathews on an in cutter in the end zone he throws it to his front shoulder ok but the db is closing if he throws that out in front so mathews can reach in front of him it's 6...the coverage played the route run should be 6 points...but he's throwing to a spot and i don't see anticipation of where to throw the ball to as much in this offense as in the sherman one...

is that the qb or is that the offense??? i don't know...but i dont think the throw to a spot is a strength right now...

remember the ball he overthrew wallace on deep down the sideline by like 5 yards in the dallas preseason game??? that ball was thrown to a spot...but he doesnt seem to be reading his wrs routes that well and anticipating where they are going with the throws this year...much more to a direct spot...it may not be something he's made for...

i don't know...but yes i'm concerned...the route combinations and lack of familiarity there does not seem to be a valid issue to me...i don't think that's playing into it at all...so what is it??? i'm trying to figure it out...i just know his execution is worse this year

Was waiting for that Hoops. I was pissed off about all that same stuff. When an athlete is referred to as a stiff, Trusnik is a perfect example of what is meant. Give him credit, the guy was a DII talent that built himself up and is actually playing in the league. But he's not a starter at mike. No way, no how. We have got to get Misi ready, and that was a gamble to begin with. When can we get Tripp ready? He will be hungry and he can make plays. I'm not sure what Kelvin Sheppard can do. He seems slow. At least, we are finding that Jelani Jenkins at will is probably actually an upgrade in a rejiggered corps. Jenkins, Misi, Tripp in some combo and break in McCain for 3rd and long and let him free lance.

Darren Rizzi! Was that unit even coached (and whatever he was doing, wasn't well thought out)?. He may be pissed at his players but he should be embarrassed for himself. When there are that many screw ups, then there is a coaching problem from organization to teaching to strategy. That was a cluster screw up in all phases. You fix the specials and this is a 16-10 situation and then who knows.

Tannehill has to clean up the accuracy. The clock is ticking. This is make or break, now or never, stuff for the kid.

Hartline has the least amount of balance of any human I've ever seen.

Ju'wan James looked like he needed less help than his counterpart, Henderson did. I felt like the Bills helped Seantrel more than we helped James.

Kyle Williams may literally be the scariest son of a gun on our schedule. He single handedly took Sam Brenner out of a 53 man job. If we could control him, we may be able to settle down on offense.

The Bills have good quickness in pass coverage and they sit on our quick stuff yet their pass rush prevents us from letting plays unfold. It's a bad matchup for our offensive passing game.

[note, I used words like "screw ups" and "stuff" to mask more grown up words. I suggest you read in my intended words to get my intensity level lol]

yeah trusnick tries hard and i get that...but bottom line is the guy should never be taking snaps in your defense....cause he's a horrible athlete for space play...if he's playing for you on anything other than specials you got issues...maybe at strong you could hide that for a few plays here or there where his poa strength could show but at mike...ha ha no way

Great write up Hoops! Spot on again IMO.

I have been a Tannehill backer, but to see him miss some of the most routine of NFL throws yesterday had me livid. I agree with those that say his decision making has improved, but his accuracy so far (and I know it's only been 2 games in a completely new offense) has regressed. On his deep passes it looks like he just tries way to hard to finesse the ball there. Just rare back and chuck the damn thing. I'll take an overthrow over those underthrown rainbows we have seen. Step into it and chuck it! I am hopeful it is more just getting more comfortable and getting the timing down better between and the QB and WR's, but I have to admit I am a little worried. Also...the WR have to catch some of those passes, plain and simple.

Watching our interior lineman was like a horrible dream or deja vu from last season.

Was surprised / disappointed in our D-lines inability to put pressure on the QB. Most of his throws were gone fairly quick, but dang....that D-line is the strength of our defense.

Incredibly disappointed that Philbin chose to give up at the end of the first half. Basically he told his offense that he doesn't believe in them or trust them. What a great message to send to your players. Green Bay had the exact same scenario in their game with the Jets (and no I'm not comparing RT to A. Rodgers), just the situation. Jets up big and Green Bay with the ball at their own 2 yard line with 2 minutes to play. They go for broke and actually score a TD before the half. If we are going to lose, at least go down swinging for crying out loud.

I do think we are the only team in the league with a kicker who cannot consistently kick it out of the back on the endzone.

Ugh...I'm trying to remain optimistic but after watching that crap we put on the field yesterday, it's pretty difficult.

Yeah I saw Trusnik trailing way too many run plays yesterday. On several of them, especially the TD drive after we scored, he wasn't even close to Jackson. He didn't have a prayer with Spiller either.

I agree on the coaching call to end the first half. That 2nd half is PRECISELY why you try to score at the end of the first half, you have to give yourself as many scoring opportunities as you possibly can. I know some don't agree with that but if you're a coach on the hot seat like Philbin is, you should go out guns blazin'. Decide your own fate with the owner. But that's Philbin for you. He's vanilla milk-toast.

As poorly as this team played, they are in great position to be 3-1 going into the bye week. I have believed in our QB up until this point, but I am having some serious doubts he can become the QB I hoped he can be (30-36tds 4000+ yards). It's one thing to struggle with the deep ball, but these inaccuracy issues are on all throws (short, medium, AND long).

i wonder if this throw to a spot stuff has effected his game cause i swear i didn't see him miss like he's missed on easy stuff the last 2 years at this rate...

Exactly, he's never had great accuracy, but it was acceptable before. He's been terrible this year. Receivers are not helping, but he's the one that needs to step up big in that department. It's like he can't even throw a screen the right way right now and that's not who he has been his first two years in the league.

This. So many game-changing plays left out there, missed because the ball is not where it needs to be. I agree, hoops, Tannehill's throwing to a spot. He says to himself, "we've repped this 20 times in practice, so let's do it one more time" and off it goes. Problem is, during the game, the speed, the way the receiver has to redirect, the time he has in the pocket, etc. - all of that is different from practice. The QB has to recognize and adjust - all the great ones do. Tannehill is just not doing it - and I really hope he can fix it, because against D's like the one we just faced, it's absolutely critical.

Watching replay again because well I'm a sadist! On the long Spiller run Trunsik and a DB took each other out and a safety got sucked in in fake reverse. Trunsik had a shot at Spiller almost got a finger on him, but man was his lack of speed/burst exposed there even ****ty Wheeler probably trips him up. Defense was confused all day long by Buffalos motion and misdirection. Special Teams were Special Olympics, and passing game blows! Very few passes are put in a place wr can catch and run. Ironically the one bright spot in passing game is Wallace and it is mostly off routes that he is suppose to not be able to run.
