If Ronnie was a bad back he wouldn't have any trade value. If he couldn't play no one would wnat him and his name wouldn't be mentioned. It's more about how good are Ricky and Sammie and how bad do we need a LT and an OLB. You say Ronnie is a future pro bowler and an elite back who can do it all. At least I assume you think that, why else would you be so vehement.
I say he is good and has trade value and we can give the carries to Ricky and Sammie and perhaps a draft pick and we don't need Ronnie. More than we need Ronnie we need Poluzny,Willis, Stanton or Leonard. We have no LT.
We need, or rather want an elite corner. Something has to give........ Ronnie doesn't pick his holes well and doesn't have breakaway speed. I think his longest run all year last year was 40 something. He barely made a 1000 yds, less than the rookie Joeseph Addai who played in a two back system at Indy and hardly played at the beginning of the season. Package Ronnie and ship him out. Besides with Green Bay or the Giants he probably goes to the playoffs next year. If we do this kind of deal maybe we can meet him there. If we don't.......not much is going to change is it????????
Ronnie has done pretty well in his first 2 years. The only reason he hasn't done better is because of things out of his control like this season (2006) getting the broken hand and missing 3 1/2 games, the offensive line injuries and position changes, QB problems, etc. In 2005, he played well also considering he missed the last 2 games due to a sprained knee/ankle and he was splitting carries with Ricky.
Even with all of the above factors, Ronnie still has done better in his first 2 years as far as yards per carry goes than LaDainian Tomlinson.
Ronnie Brown ... in first 2 years in the NFL:
448 carries, 1915 yards, 4.3 yards per carry
65 pass receptions, 508 yards, 7.8 yards per reception
That comes to 4.72 yards per touch
LaDainian Tomlinson ... in first 2 years in the NFL:
711 carries, 2,919 yards, 4.05 yards per carry
138 pass receptions, 856 yards, 6.2 yards per reception
That comes to 4.45 yards per touch
If Ronnie had 711 carries like LT did in his first 2 years @ 4.3 ypc, he would have 3,057 yards ... pretty damn good ... Pro Bowl good. Ronnie has run the ball over 37% less than LT in his first 2 years and he's had about half as many receptions. LT got his hands on the ball 40% more often than Ronnie in his first 2 years.
That's THE problem, Ronnie hasn't been getting the carries or the pass receptions that LT and Larry Johnson have been getting. No telling how good Ronnie's stats would be if he could have gotten more plays called for him by the OC and he didn't have the injuries, didn't share carries, etc. That's the big difference between how LT did his first 2 years and Ronnie's first 2 years. LT has also been very lucky with injuries and the Chargers made him the featured back since day one when he was drafted.

In 2005, Ricky Williams averaged 4.4 yards per carry. Ronnie Brown averaged 4.4 yards per carry ... as a rookie. Ricky was a 5 year veteran in 2005.
Ricky averaged 3.5 yards per carry as a rookie and 4.0 yards per carry in his 2nd year. Ronnie averaged 4.2 yards per carry in his second year behind an Oline that had injuries, position changes .... not to mention all the QB problems, receivers dropping passes, etc.
