How can a QB with almost a 69% completion rate and almost 300 yards passing be a bad thing? I will tell you how. When that QB has to be absolutely perfect to complete a scoring drive. Pennington lacks the ability to hit a long pass, there for we have to drive down the field with these 12-15 play drives in which everything has to go right to get it in the end zone. 31% incompletion rate seems really low until you look at what the incompleteions were, to include wide open misses for TD's that lead to kicking FG and a pick 6. We are like 0 and 19 or something in third down and 10 situations for the season. People are on to our Wildcat. We can continue to die a slow death and sqeak out a couple more wins with Penny, or we can put in Henne which will open up stuff down field thus opening our running game. Are there going to be growing pains? Yes! However, I feel we have peaked as a team with Pennington the QB. A 90 plus QB rating is great, as well as a 70% completion percentage, but with Pennington as the QB is going to need closer to 100% completion rating and a 158.3 QB rating to win consistantly due to his inability to go deep. It's like watching paint dry.

The D is a problem (primarily DB) and Pennington is a problem. We need to score TD's, our Wildcat did that a couple weeks. People are on to it now. The fact we can't score quickly amplifies the effect we suck in our pass D.

two things lost this game:

defense. we could not get them off of the field on third downs when we needed to and allowing a rookie qb to carve us up like he did is embarassing.

red zone conversions. we made it to the red zone four times and only scored one td. that has nothing to do with penny's arm strength, thats poor execution. baltimore stepped up when they needed to and we didn't. plain and simple.

Our Secondary is the problem and our WR's! I don't get how this can be blamed on Pennington. I think it's down right amazing he has such a high completion rating, considering his passes have to be pin point accutate because our WR's get no seperation!

If you don't think Penny's arm strength had nothing to do with it you need to take a better look. It is a simple law of averages. When you have to dink and dunk down the field on 15 play drives there is a high percentage something will go wrong. That is a fact. When we get into the red zone and the field and throwing windows are reduced significantly, lack of arm strength is a big factor.

I agree with you completely pennington is just as much at fault the mans completion percentage is only that high because his *** is afraid to throw it passed 20 years he checks down everytyime and his accuracy DEFINATELY was at fault today the defense didnt help but pennington played aweful today he could have all the time in the world and i guarantee he checks down to and under route its so vanilla and boring to watch its not funny teams know we arent going to throw our offense is simple to stop

Seriously... The wild cat was different... Worked against 2 teams But it's worthless! Just backfires on us now! We run them because we can't do what these other teams are doing.. Being able to spread the field. If you can't spread it, the RB's will have a horrible time finding holes. Plus the D plays us close and defenses have an easy time coming in.. Flacco, and Matt Ryan are doing well.. Both playing with teams that have no shot, but they are still in! Pennington will be a solid back up, but get the kid in!!

Well get used to it because Chad P. ain't going anywhere for at least several weeks or unless he has such a horrible game that Sparano has no choice but to bench him. Let's face it, while he doesn't have the strongest arm, he's an accurate and efficient QB. Right now he gives us the best chance to win. If it weren't for the horrible play of our D as of late, he'd be guiding us to a 4-2 record instead of a 2-4 record. Heck, I give him credit for his play given we don't have a "Big name" receiver. Sure he has a mistake now and then, but it's been rare compared to the LOOONG list of QB's that have come before him. It's too early to put Henne in at this point. We've still got over half the season to go and until we are completely out of it, I would prefer to stick with Pennington at this point.

I have to disagree simply because we don t have a WR that can provide any seperation down field. Have you watched our WR run their routes ?? They can NOT make anything happen. If the intial route is convered our WR's give up instead of continuing to work to get free. Week in and week out THIS is a constant theme and I am sorry but in the NFL if your WR's are not helping by running crisp, hard routes and when the oportunity comes to BE CREATIVE you can't put all the blame on the QB.

I laugh when people refer to "the" problem. We have a lot more than one.

Pennington is one of them. He does not have the ability to throw certain routes. He can't throw deep ins or deep outs. It's true that our WR do not get much separation. And Pennington's arm requires them to get a lot of separation. There is no doubt in my mind that we would see more downfield production with Henne at QB. There would be tradeoffs, of course, but it's a fact that Pennington cannot get the ball downfield. And because of that, teams put 8 guys in the box to stuff the run. When we started to use the Wildcat, it opened up things for the run. But, that's changing now, and the running game looked like it did the first two weeks of the season.

Today's major issue on defense was no Jason Ferguson and no Paul Soliai. Randy Starks is good as a DE in the 3-4, but he can't hold the nose. When a team can run at will, it opens up the passing game. Today, we couldn't stop the run, and as a result, we made life easy on Flacco.

Hey, I am not really bashing Pennington just stating the facts. I think we would still have atleast 2 wins with Henne at QB. Man if Penne had an average arm, he'd be a top 5 QB. The fact is he doesn't and it affects the whole team. By that I mean our running game (for obvious reasons), our D (no 3rd and 10 pick ups all year) and our special teams for the same reason in winning field posistion.

How do you know that our wide receivers don't get any seperation? I've seen wide open receivers ignored or thrown terrible passes by Chad. Unless you have the game tape, its just a cop out to say that our wr's aren't open.

The defense is the problem, not Chad Pennington.

No defense is a problem but so isnt Pennington he always gets off easy for whatever reason. I never seen so many Dolphin fans so quick to defend a Jet in my life.

However this game the defense was pathetic. It almost seemed like they made no adjustments when the all three of their RB's were running down our throats. It was a pathetic defensive outing other than Porter who continues to play well.

Our run defense was so horrible.

We have no talent on the outside, Camarillo is good 3rd reciever at best, these guys aren't getting seperation downfield therefore the offensive gameplan hinges largely to completions to the backs and TEs hence the touches Cobbs has had the last 2 weeks... Penny is making his reads and checking down... if there was a downfield threat he'd be putting the ball up... Penny has has many completions this season over 20 yards including 5 last week. With a true #1 on the outside this offence would be putting up more points and the WIldcat may be a lesser used play in the playbook
