Did this team forfeit the ability to reboot after the end of next season if they miss the playoff again? Would Hickey stay and be allowed to pick the new coach if this team implodes?

I would doubt he is very committed since he was so low on the interview list. I see this regime getting two years.

If Ross hired someone who he isnt committed to (I.e. faithful in), then he is a worse owner than all of us realized, and an even worse human being (for taking someone away from a seemingly more stable job and making him a lame duck GM)

I pray Ross is indeed a poor human, because I certainly don't want him to take yet another half measure and keep Hickey on after dumping Philbin after yet anther failed season...

I think at this point Ross is just preying to make playoffs, so that he can keep everyone for another year before having to revisit this.

I can't imagine Ross wants anything to do with another hiring process, no matter how little it seemed like he wanted to hire hickey.

Say what you want about Ross. But he's been loyal to his employees.

Hickey didnt have a stable job. He was about to be fired by tb after the draft anyways

What happens if the team is successful?

I think much like this year, you don't go in with the attitude that your going to fail and if that happens...you will do exactly &@#$^. You go in believing you made the right choices to be successful and this is a winning combination of HC and GM and will produce for us. If it doesn't happen, you decide where the fault lies and deal with it.

I'm sure there will be some contingency planning done......but don't expect those to get dusted off until the season starts to play itself out.

With what we have now.We are just like the titanic headed for the iceberg..

I've been thinking about this actually.

Now that we've hired outside of the organization I see us keeping Hickey regardless of what happons next season.

As a matter of fact, I see Philbin now getting at least 3 more years.

If they hired Gaine, they could've easily, and reasonably cleaned house next year.

But after this fiasco, I can't see Ross upended the apple cart and going through this process again anytime soon.

Might as well keep them tied together for the next few years , then do the complete clean sweep that's needed then

Eh, not sure I believe that He was about to be fired by TB. He seemingly had a number of botched drafts and since he hadnt been let go yet after thoughs IMO chances are he likely would have been retained.

Ross from all indications preaches loyalty of his underlings so this is a 3 year project UNLESS we TANK BADLY

Gotta love some Dolphins fans... The current season hasn't even ended yet and they're already writing off next year. It's not to say that Hickey is a great hire, I don't know that, just like no one knows that he won't turn out to be a good hire. People need to quit their whining already and let things play out. Oh yeah, and STOP believing every report that claims a "source". They're about as accurate as weathermen.

Only way we find out is if we can get our hands on Hickeys contract terms.

I doubt it will be 2 years if the team does not improve and especially if it regresses. That will be 3 years for Philbin and the honeymoon will be over, he in my opinion got a one year reprieve by Sherman and Ireland taking the fall. If it doesn't improve it will time to clean house, perhaps all the way around. I don't think Hickey has a long term leash at all, no matter how this is being spun....he was not the top choice all along.

IMO he has turned the franchise over to Philbin and Ryan (RT). Ross wanted a GM that would really work with Philbin rather than a GM that was looking to get public approval for his ego. In that way, Hickey is the perfect GM for this franchise at this moment. Obviously with Ireland and Philbin battling all the time last year that had to play a negative role in what took place. Ireland picked players that obviously Philbin didn't agree with being drafted or signed.

I think Ross views RT as our franchise QB and he is hesitant to arrange a situation that could impede RT's progress as a starting NFL QB. He obviously didn't blow up the team because of that. Making a tweak to demand a new OC was a half measure. IMO a calculated half measure, again to continue to help RT progress as a starting NFL QB. I think it's a fair case to make if RT had to deal with a new HC and OC it would more than likely hinder his progress.

I don't have a issue with what Ross is looking to do. His execution was obviously questionable, but I also think it's his own damn fault. Never trust the media, never ever be fully open with them, they will always bite you.

We don't know that. If you believe the reports, the Buc's were going to interview him this Wednesday.
