How Dalton's contract affects Tannehill

How many playoff games has Tannehilll played in again...he isn't get a deal like this unless he delivers...

NFL contracts have those eye popping numbers but the reality is that he's at $36 mil over 3 years so it's not nearly a big deal. Bengals committed to him for 3 years which isn't crazy in theory because if Ginger bombs they will be screwed anyway.

NFL salaries are very calm compared with other sports. The lack of guaranteed money makes some if not most of these initial numbers exaggerated. I mean a guy like Chandler Parsons got like $45 mil over 3 years. The Toronto point guard Lowry got something over $10 mil per. Jodie Meeks got paid. Baseball is more comparable to basketball. Pitchers or position players that aren't anything special get paid more comparably to these NBA deals. By comparison NFL players get modest deals. NFL ownership just kills it in terms of revenue not to mention the increase in value of their equity. The imbalance in the NFL pay structure compared with other sports is what's eye popping.

Sure Dalton's been to the playoffs in each of his 1st three seasons, but he's been awful once he gets there. All those offensive weapons, a top 5 defense...yet can't seem to rise to the occasion when it counts.

1 TD vs 6 interceptions

a 54 QBR in those 3 games

55 completion percentage

5.6 yards per attempt

Looks like he hasn't delivered much if you ask me.

And how many playoff games have the Phins been in the last 10 years...yet you talk about Dalton not delivering..

We're talking about QBs here, but yeah if you wanna throw the train off the tracks, how many Super Bowls have the Bengals won in the past 45 years?

Dalton's contract is really only 2 years $25 million. After that Cincinnati could cut him in 2016 with $7 million cap hit.
Like someone above mentioned a very team friendly contract. Actually contract is NOT good for Tannehill as it follows Stafford's similar contract.
The Lions can dump Stafford in 2016 with $11 million cap hit instead of $22.5 million to keep him playing.

The 5th year option as expensive as it sounds may be the way to go if Tannehill isn't ready to sign a comparable team friendly contract like Dalton and Stafford.
While 15-16 million for one year sounds high the Dolphins should have the cap room to keep him for the 5th year if they think he needs it to prove himself for the 20-30 million guaranteed that he would be getting in a long term deal.
