I know that it is very early to rate, but I really want to know how did Jake Long look all over the preseason, how did he manage the pass block, rush block, penalties and overall performance?

From what I have seen he is as advertised. He is a dominating run blocker who collapses his side of the line and has a surprising ability to get to the second level. Pass blocking is still a work in progress but he by no means is a slouch. He seems to struggle with secondary moves as his feet get crossed up, fake outside then come inside. Pure outside speed rush he seems to have caught up to. What bothers me though is on pass plays he takes this ridiculous drop step in order to seal off the outside, that keys to the defensive player that it is a pass play which I think causes the first problem I mentioned.

IMO by mid-year he will have it figured out and next year will be shooting for the pro-bowl.

He is the next Joe Thomas:woot:

He looked good from what you can tell on the screan.

Yeah I pretty much agree, I think by midseason when he's played a handful or more games for four qtrs a game he will start to see he's simply overreacting to the defenders moves. He has yet to realize his Long arms will help him so he doesn't have to take such a big kickout step at the snap and his feet will start to stay underneath him and won't cross, whcih takes away his ability to move with the defender. All that is just confidence, when he gets the confidence he will settle down.

What I do like about what he's done so far is he doesn't give up on plays. If somone gets by him he will turn 180% and fully extend his body horizontally if he has too and use his whole body to keep the guy off the QB. This is another reason Pennington was such a key addition and will make Jakes learning curve quite a big bigger. I also like that he's able to use his peripheral vision well. He and Smiley work well together already on stunts and inside moves. I think Jake is definitely a keeper and will only get better.

The oline in general has looked much improved. Kind of made me tear up and get emotional considering the teams we played early on. Tampa and Jacksonville have very good defenses and the starting oline held their own. Plus the entire pre season the oline only gave up 4 or 5 sacks. Two or three last night. I don't know how long the 1st team oline played last night so don't know how they looked but Jake has played very well and appears that LT is one position that Miami no longer needs to worry about. Ricky and Ronnie gotta be loving this.

Will be to watch the running game this year. Barring injuries, teams won't want to play us with two monsters running them over for four quarters. Figure they should both be pretty fresh come the fourth quarter when teams are getting tired and wore down. It appears Miami is well conditioned and playing with a passion which only makes the running game that much more important. Good times a head.
