I am not by any stretch of the imagination saying that I expect this to happen, it's basically a question I thought up as I read all the Saban bashing going on in the forums... Miami is 1-6 -- What if Miami goes up to Chicago and wins (no matter if they played well or not) they just win. Then Miami rattles off another 8 wins and finishes the season 10-6... How many "Saban Sucks" "Saban can't coach in the Pros" "FIRE SABAN" posts will we have??? The same people bashing him will be writing the "Saban = Jesus" "Saban is the man" "Miami has the best coach in the NFL" posts... Miami fans in general are known for this... I went to a Monday Night game in the early to mid 90's against the 49ers... Dan Marino was sacked on the 1st three offensive plays. People were actually getting up and booing Marino. Later that game Marino threw a touchdown pass and the same people booing -- were now chanting his name and telling him how great he was. People throughout the country laugh at us. They call Miami a bad sports town. The other night during their ring ceremony, the Miami Heat and Alonzo Mourning went out of their way to say how great the fans were and how they were the best fans in the league... I remember the season prior to Wade getting here that the NBA asked Miami to change the colors of the seats because they had so many empty during games that they stood out like sour thumbs on TV ...

Look, I know we are all disappointed with the way this season has gone - but I think we all looked too much into the last 6 games of last year and allowed them to give us false illusions that this franchise was on the brink of greatness. The truth of the matter is that Saban made the decision he thought was right regarding the Culpepper/Brees debate. I personally thought it was the correct decision myself -- I will always choose a knee injury over a shoulder injury when regarding a QB. Saban drafted Ronnie Brown (who everyone thought was the best RB in the draft), he couldnt trade the pick. Ricky Williams gets suspended. Scott Linehan gets a head coaching job. The offensive line is playing worse instead of getting better. Saban has been a winner as a head coach. He turned Michigan State into a good program. He won a Nat'l Championship with LSU - with time he will turn this around. Miami has a full draft this year (except for their 6th that can turn into a 5th depending on Joey Harrington). Miami is going to have cap room. Miami is going to have either picks or players to trade and HOPEFULLY Ricky Williams coming back. Miami SHOULD have Culpepper healthy from the start of training camp. It's time to actually infuse some positivity into this depressing situation... :dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins:

Look, I don't hate Saban (and I'm not one of the "fire Saban" crowd) ... but, c'mon now, we are not going to win out and finish 10-6.

great post. i used to be a season ticket holder, and let me tell you. in south florida EVERYONE is from up north somewhere. most of the fans are true die hards, but many are just bandwagon jumpin crybabies. what is really sickening is the amount of fans in the stadium for the other team..... :df81:.....we will be back......

This is a good post. BUT, I have criticized Saban. And alot of people have. This doesn't make all of us Saban "haters". Saban does deserve some criticism. Even if we were to rattle of 9 wins in a row and finish 10-6 (like that's going to happen) there will still be things that Saban (and everyone else on the team) has done wrong. Noone is above criticism, and criticizing a player or a coach doesn't make someone a bad fan or a fairweather fan. There are some fans who are like that, but not all. What would make Saban or any other person/player in the Miami organization immune to criticism? Welcome to professional sports. That's the way it is. Noone gets a free pass in my book. But that doesn't mean I HATE them. It means I'm realistic. NOONE (that's right noone) on this board can say they have never criticized a player or coach or GM or anyone else affiliated with their favorite teams. That's what happens when you're passionate about something.
There is plenty of criticism to go around for this team this season. It's ok to criticize. It's ok to question moves, play calling, decisions. That is part of being a fan. How can that be called HATING someone?

Sure there are some people already wanting Saban fired. And that is premature. But the majority of the people who have criticized are not calling for Saban's head. They are calling for some type of change or calling for answers and expressing concerns. Nothing wrong with that.

there's 9 games left. enough time for saban to change the negative perception. all the abovementioned are true and not saban's fault. But c'mon, you can't be happy with what he did with the secondary: Jason Allen, and complete turnover from last year. Decision to hire Mularkey (there was enough critics out there), his perceived lack of cluelessness regarding offense, his draft picks other than Brown & Crowder, and his strange way of de-emphasizing wins & losses ( sounds like the parent turned soccer coach in charge of the winless team spouting: "as long as everyone plays and the kids have fun..."

Thanks i needed this slap in the face to all of my critisms. I'm just very dissapointed.

It's tough, I'm tired of losing too. Saban won't want to go through another season like this. There will, and has to be a major upgrade on the oline. We need a oline that can dominate games by itself. That will open up the running game. Which in turns opens up the passing game. That sustians drives, and keeps the defense off the feild, and rested. Bottom line it all starts with the oline.

If we win out, then everybody will be happy and love Saban and say he is a great coach. That is the thing. If we win we are happy w/the coach and players, if we loose people will start looking for the reasons.

so far we have lost. I still think we will win a decent ammount of games this year. Hopefully starting sunday.

I think you are missing the point of his post.

Well, I am not going to bash you for defending Saban, even though I never thought that Daunte was a better pick than Brees was. But regarding of us pulling a win you can forget about it, this team has alot of issues and we are not that good, we will see what next season brings. Now Saban does need to get the fire back on this team, it seems that players get to Miami and I guess all the sun and night life makes them lazy, don't undestand why? But the hunger needs to come back to the fins.

we will not win sunday and saban has been a gigantic disappointment so far. best thing for us is to get the #1 pick and get brady quinn. all the problems of the last decade can be tied to poor qb play.

Even if somehow we miraculously finished 9-7 or 10-6 - the team still needs an overhaul at seasons ends. Saban's got some work to do regardless of how we finish in the offseason.

The Saban bashers (myself included) dont actually hate him. We just dont think he deserves the credit he is receiving. He gets labled a "great coach" for no reason. What has he done to be praised this way? If he becomes a successful NFL coach he will be recognized as such because his numbers wont lie. As of now the same holds true, numbers dont lie, so he is NOT a great NFL coach. If he turns out to be great, excellent but until that happens he gets no pat on the back from me he dont deserve it.
SCall13 wrote a very true post. The Saban maniacs who claim the rest of us are not true fans should read it.
