The Jets and Carolina seemed to pass at will. Regardless of down or distance receivers were getting open and QB had time in key situations.

Do you see more zone being played, more man?

Against the Jets, we didnt put pressure on Chad, didnt bump receivers at the line, and didnt knock down balls that floated in the air. Coles tore it up.

I know against Carolina we brought lots of blitzes in the 1st half and kept getting beat, then in the 2nd half we backed off and hid our packages better. Still Smith tore it up.

Is it strickly personnel, is it scheme or a combination? Is it strickly the opposing receivers....Coles and Smith are two of the best in the league with tremendous speed.

I am looking for what you all think and better understand what we arent doing well, and also what we are doing well and if we need to just do more of that.

It cant be only one defender that is letting us down and underperforming?

thoughts?

Well coles didn't have 100 yards against us, McCareins didn't either, but Miami should've done a better job. Smith is the guy that shredded the secondary. I'm kind of glad Miami has a bye now, becuase Saban will have much more time, to tweak, scheme and decide what players he want's to play and what to do with them, etc.

What you see is what you get..

Guys, we're gonna get beat by big time players from time to time ala Steve Smith.. It's the OUTCOME, and the adversity that we OVERCOME that matters.

We wait til Poole gets healthy. From a CB perspective, we are stuck with what we got. You just hope Daniels can develop for a year and Poole can return strong. That alone should improve our coverage secondary.

CB is the hardest position to play for a rookie on defense. Having a years experience will help Daniels a ton. One of the hardest things for rookies to do is to learn to forget about the last play and treat each play by itself. Dont let getting beat carry over into the next play. Thats something that is hard for stud 22/23 year olds who were dominant out of college to do and is still hard for some pros to even do. Bottom line, a years experience will help our coverage secondary and the only way we get there is just with time.

I think D-line pressure, and the cb's getting experience in this system will do wonders for our passing D.

yep. Smith is the first top tier receiver in their prime that we've gone against...Think about it. Who else have we played Rod Smith, Ashlie Lelie, Lavernous Coles, Justin Mccairens?

We have the 21st rated pass D in the nfl. it takes time for these guys to get their coverages right. Saban specializes in his secondary, expect some improvement as the season progreses, but no miracles.

I think they need to make adjustments, did stop Ashley Lelie and Rod Smith against Denver, I think Saban will do something to improve the performance of the secondary, though. I think Saban's capable of doing so. The patriots lost Harrison, and Randal Gay and they still slowed down the Pittsburgh receivers. It will take time, but I think Saban is capable of putting a scheme together as well as Belicheck. We'll see.

He's good but not that good, the secondary made it look like T.O snuck in teh game with Smiths jersey on, judging by those numbers.

from 1st to 21first alreayd last year we were first. damn i miss surtain

yeah, but are run D was so awful that most teams ran the ball down the team's throat, therefore passed less, so it made the pass D look amazing, it was good, but not as good as indicated on paper.

Steve Smith is the man w/his recieving skills. He's close to being on the same level as TO.
