How do we stop Antonio Gates next week?

Obviously TEs have been tearing us apart these past 2 weeks. Now we face another monster of a TE in Gates. How do we stop him with our poor LB core & safeties?

Let's all do a prayer that he gets injured this week somehow. That's the only gameplan I can conjure.
 
Pressure Rivers! He is more likely to make mistakes then Manning and even Ryan.
 
Somebody better bring a gun,the way TE's have been violating our D.

Get new linebackers and some new safety's? Our D coordinator is putting guys in positions to make plays and they just aren't doing it. Poor tackling is freaking killing us.
 
how do we stop him? My bold answer is that we have no hope of stopping him. not unless we put will allen or Smith on him. :(
 
Put Sean Smith on him. He has obviously shown as our best cover corner. If Gates is the biggest threat then just put Smith on him.

Are you crazy? Gates is the least of our worries, you are going to need Sean Smith on Vincent Jackson and don't forget Chris Chambers on the other side, and Sproles in the backfield.

This game will be tough.


Stop blaming the offense for our losses its the defense that isn't helping us.
 
How do we stop him, We wont, just hope we can contain him and put pressure on Rivers. Sproles is more of a threat IMO!
 
We have owned the chargers over the last few years. We lose this game and then it's time to start figuring out what we want to do in the draft next year.

Yeah Chris Chambers who has like two catches in the first two weeks? No, put Vontae on him and Will Allen on Jackson. For critical third downs, I want my best cover-corner on the opposing teams best threat. SD=Gates.
 
One thing is for sure, after watching linebackers chase the last 2 TE's around and Safeties wiff on tackles we had better come up with something different. Maybe using Smith to cover him is an option. It's pretty obvious our Ilb's can't get the job done.
 
The thing that makes a TE so hard to cover is the matchup problems they cause

The good ones cannot be covered by a LBer (they are too slow) and a Safety (also to slow) so look at the CB (which is normally much smaller).

So Smith would be the perfect player to take a TE out of the game. But in essence that would leave the WRs left to cover.

I am trying to figure out is V Davis not performing well right now or something.

Either way next weeks matchup is going to be very difficult because of the sheer size of the Chargers WRs. (Jackson 6-5 230, Naanee 6-2 220, Floyd 6-5, 225)

Add that to Gates (6-4, 260)

I will be watching this game close, and I will say I have never been impressed with Gibril Wilson and once again he is showing me why
 
Vontae Davis is the answer. He is fast and physical enough. Or look for a free agent ILB because the ones we have leave are not going to get the job done.
