We will have to finish with at least 10 wins next year to be a solid playoff team. What do we do to get there?

On offense, passing and consistent run blocking are the keys to improving this offense. We need a better QB, Center, and WR. Our QB play has been erratic, we have not gotten a consistent "push" from McKinney, and Booker is getting older and is slower than Linehan would like with not much depth behind him. Welker is a good situational receiver, but that's about it.

On defense, more help in the secondary, particularly at the safety position is the most pressing need. Another outside linebacker and nose tackle to shore up the run and we would be much better next year.

This is how I think our draft may go

Round 1 - Michael Huff - DB Huff is one of the premier defensive backs in the country. He has great speed (4.38), versatility (has played both corner and safety), intelligence, confidence, and maturity. He is exactly what we need along with Poole and Mitchell to help our secondary. I think Madison reworks his contract and stays.

Round 2 - Johnathan Orr - WR Orr is another very fast, gifted receiver from Wisconsin, limited by a run-oriented offense and poor QB'ing. He is first round talent that will be a bargain in round 2. His size (6'2") and speed (4.3+) is exactly what we need to vault Chambers into one of the elite receivers in the league. Booker either reworks his contract or is let go.

Round 3 - Mike Degory - C Degory has been a "Houck" type player for Florida and brings an attitude sorely needed. I think Houck likes Hadnot at guard and as a backup at center. We stay with Alabi, Carey, and McIntosh as tackles, but Mac will need to rework his contract.

Round 4 - Charlie Whitehurst - QB Did you see him play last night? This guy has the size, arm strength and attitude to be a great pro. Linehan is terrific at developing QB's and I think Whitehurst will be a steal in round 4. He has the pocket awareness and escapability along with the big arm to fit perfectly into Linehan's vertical offense.

I think OL comes from free agency (Peterson anyone?) and Vickerson and Wright step up to help on the D-line. Traylor may get one more year with us.

2006 is definetly looking up.

First, 10 wins may not get you into the playoffs. The Dolphins need at least 11 wins to probably get a wildcard, or have a shot at winning the division.

Assuming the Phins go 9-7 this season, two more wins is not that hard to reach, but three more would be much better.

I agree that a better QB would get us two more wins. A stud OL FA would be very good too. Another good CB for the defense.

JUST a better QB would be enough though, as Houck can get the OL to be even a bit better despite the lack of talent with another year of work, and having Poole back and Howard GONE might be enough for the secondary.

I'd love to see Huff around when the Phins pick, but that seems unlikely.

I see what your saying about bringing people in. But if your just talking about making the playoffs, not Superbowl, then easy...

Dont throw INT's with time running out inside the 10 yard line when you have a chance to tie and maybe win.

Dont get flagged a million times a game and then let the ball slip out at the last second as your getting tackled forcing the refs to decide whether its a fumble or not and in the end ruling it a fumble and you lose.

Dont go into Cleveland thinking god knows what. Have your head in the game and play them as you would the Superbowl champs, not as if they are some pee wee team so you wont get beat down 22-0 and lose your chances later on for the playoffs.

Thats three games right there. This team RIGHT NOW, IMO, is a playoff team. Of course they wouldn't get far but they should've made it this year if it weren't for some boneheaded mistakes in close games and of course Cleveland.

 Michael Huff. That's who I hope falls our way. I trust Saban with any decision he makes, becasue he knows what's best for this team.

If we get Huff in the first round. Youth at the secondary could be sick with talent. Michael Huff, Travis Daniels, Will Poole, Shirdonya Mitchell, and Yeremiah Bell. I love it...we would be set for years.

Let's hope not, but it's possible.

And tonight we will see 4 more QBs that do pretty well, and we will see posts on how they would fit our system. This is where we need to let the Pros do their job and pick guys that will do well in the NFL.

Sign the Bill Polian petition to get the Patriots moved out of the AFC so the Colts can finally go to a Super Bowl. Replace them with the Cards, and that ought to get the Fins two more wins a season.

I think it's not necessarily about how we get two more wins, but more about what team are we going to field that is capable of getting 12 or 13 wins in a season. Or better yet, how do we just make the offense and defense strong.

Fewer penalties, more consistent QB play and better coverage/tackling from the secondary. Those three things would make us a top 3 seed in this year's playoffs.

Not setting a new franchise record for penalties in a season would be a good start.

Yeah but that's like trying to catch smoke with your bare hands. What player do you go out and buy in free agency that will cut down on your penalties?

I think Nick did a great job after the Cleveland game of getting some of these guys to wake the F up and start playing like their jobs are on the line...cuz they were. That's what happens when you've got a bunch of guys on one or two year deals (we do) or guys that were brought in by a previous coaching regime that think they could be the next ones to go. All it takes is a little nudge to remind them that they're playing for their jobs here.

David Bowens said the thing that woke the most people up after the Cleveland game was during that psychotic episode press conference Nick Saban said that we're in the middle of finding out who needs to be here and who does not need to be here. David said that made a lot of guys realize they were on their way to not being here, and they really wanted to be here. The press keeps going on and on about the part where he said "The results don't matter. How many wins we have this year doesn't matter. The score of the game doesn't matter" But in reality, the words that struck home hardest were a few lines later when he started getting into that what matters is finding out who's going to be here next year and who isn't.

That was kind of my point.......I think that even with the same roster, if we played more disciplined, we could win 2 more games....especially with how the team has come together this last month.

But, to answer your question......you could rid yourself of the players who are the least disciplined and make the most mental mistakes....and you could make FA acquisitions based partly on picking players who haven't proved prone to mental mistakes.

P-L-A-Y C-A-L-L-I-N-G

That cost us 2 games easy.

Since we started "feeding the studs" we haven't lost a game.

IMO

1- A hard hitter in the secondary, the coverage is decent but we lack a big hitter to make WR's not want to go over the middle

2- A true LT, whether that player is a young guy on the team already ior is drafted or even picked up through free agency

3- An OLB to go along with Thomas and Crowder

The reason I dont say QB is because a rookie isnt going to take you anywhere most likley and there arnt any amazing FA QB's available that I know of, I want to draft a QB but he wont be the differnce maker next year IMO
