With your very good offensive line, and great personel, do you think there is a team in the NFL that can stop it? if so, what then?

The wildcat is not a gimmick, it is a formation. We have a young QB who is showing promise. We are not superb ow contenders yet but we are putting the pieces together.

it can take us as far as any NFL running game can take a team. There are 2 main phases to offense... running and passing. We run the ball out of the Single wing formation very well. We have one of the most dominating run blocking lines in the league, and a pair of powerful backs, who are really just spectacular. Gimmicks won't get you far in this league (just ask the jets how those fake punts, etc work out for them), but real hard nosed football (like the single wing), that'll get you somewhere.

So to answer your question.. can a team stop it? Don't know. If theres a team that can I think its the Ravens or a team with an over powering front 7 that can stop the run. Theres no gimmick about it. If you can stop the run you can stop the cat.

First of all, it is not a gimmick. It is an offensive package that we run consistently well. I think it can be stopped, but with the right personnel and coaching, which just about every team doesn't have. Our O-line is top 5 and our RB's are great, which is why we run it the best. I don't see N.O. stopping the WC, while I don't see Miami stopping Brees.

Oh come now. With the good reputation you Saints fans are developing on this board, are you really gonna try to hit the "gimmick" nerve?

No, the Wildcat can't be stopped because as much lip service as teams pay to stopping the run, defenses just aren't built to stop a REAL power running game like Parcells/Ireland/Sparano have tried to build. It's not much of a gimmick anymore. The line isn't even unbalanced like it was. It is simple power running with a lot of misdirection. Very basic smashmouth football concepts. Ronnie taking the snap has less to do with trickery and more to do with compensating for his deficiencies by giving him more space to choose his holes (less than elite vision when taking a regular handoff). The only way to beat it is to out-physical it, and nobody is going to sit there and try to build the defensive counter to what the Dolphins have built as long as the Phins are the only ones running it.

The Wildcat will continue to be a part of our offense until it can be regularly stopped. Even if that happens, it's not like the Phins will be dead in the water. They aren't built to rely on the Wildcat...the Wildcat was built to best utilize the personnel we had at the time (last year). As we continue to build our team, we won't NEED the Wildcat anymore, but certainly won't discard it as long as it's gaining nearly 8 yards per play.

Well first let me address the Gimmick portion of your question and guide you to a very good link that explains the History of the Wildcat. After you finish reading the article you will know that the Cat has been around for a very long time.

How far can it take us? Who knows really. Other than a few games last year where we were already devastated on our O-line with both guards out no one has been able to stop it. And just like anything else until people prove they can stop it we will continue to run it.

I also noticed that just about every team has a Wildcat package last year based off last years success I would only assume that next year after our continued success (nearly 8 yards a carry) that even more teams will install and use it.

Well let's see, so far it took us to a 2008 division title, an 11-5 record, the number one running game in the league this year and a win against the bills and jets. Did I miss anything? If the prior things are any indication then hopeully it will take us far.

Give him a break. He hasn't been around to know not to use the 'gimmick' word. He meant it as a compliment.

The gist of the post: we have a very good O-line that powers a running game that is difficult to stop (how difficult?).

Ask the Jets about our gimmick. They'll tell you.

The minute we start running one I'll let ya know!!

Thanks, and ill be honest here, reading all these posts scares me a bit, let me ask you this, do you know how long its been since any team hung 48 on the G-men, I, not as a Saints fan, but just a fan of the NFL was pretty damned impressed by what we did to the Giants on both sides of the ball. Im not saying your better or worse than the giants because its too early to tell, Im saying i believe they are a very good team. That being said i also know that the Phins and the Giants are 2 very different animals, and of course, on any given sunday..........I believe if we hold you to 24 points we win, but hell yeah im concerned. Then again , like i said earlier we can afford a loss.........good luck Phins

Statue of liberty play = gimmick. Not the formation that is now part of our staple offense. Actually if you think about it, other teams run the wildcat more of like a gimmick in that they only run it a few times a game. Hence every other teams lack of success with it.

So.......do you have a prediction? score?

You guys will probably win because our secondary will have no answer for Brees and your WRs. I'm thinking something like 31-17 or 28-17. But if we happen to make a few big plays on defense for crucial stops or force a few turnovers (definitely not our forte), we have a decent chance.
