[h=2]A week removed from action, Miami Dolphins players are in full recovery mode. That doesn’t exclude quarterback Ryan Tannehill.[/h]The most nerve-racking moments came in week 14 against the Arizona Cardinals when Ryan Tannehill went down with what everyone assumed was a torn ACL. That shortly turned to relief after the Miami Dolphins announced he only suffered a sprained MCL.

While any injury to the knee needs to be approached with caution there was talk and hope, if Miami made the playoffs, that Tannehill would be back and ready to go. As we all know, that never happened. And after head coach Adam Gase‘s latest comments on the manner it sounds like it was for the best.

“We still don’t have all the exacts, we’re working through that right now,” Gase said, via James Walker of ESPN. “He’s still going through a rehab stage right now and going through what he has to do with the trainers and our doctors are evaluating.

Gase made the right call by keeping Tannehill on the sideline Wild Card weekend vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you recall, Robert Griffin III had a similar injury his rookie season in 2014. He came back too early and eventually tore his ACL a couple weeks later in the playoffs.

Ugh I just wish there was more clarity to this issue!

In the Joe Rose interview he gives more clarity.

He's fine and will be ready for TC.

We can only hope it was a very slight acl tear then. Maybe a few fibers here and there. I wonder if the MCL was just so jacked that was what kept him out of the last few games. I just don't want him to running around on a bum knee. Tannehill is great with his legs getting out of the pocket finding people on the run or rushing for the occasional first here and there. You take that element away from him and he becomes a very different player. I feel like this will be a constant question this offseason with the lack of clarity we get from Gase on the injury department. I need to hear coach and Ryan both say he's fine before I take anyone else's word for it.

The dude needs to have surgery and I don't know why their jeopardizing the future of our QB position.

I wonder if they are trying the platelet rich plasma therapy to see how the knee heals itself before committing to surgery. I've heard it can have great results but I'm not sure if it is effective for acl injuries

Are you his doctor? Are you a doctor?
IDK what on earth makes you or anyone else think they know better than the practicing physicians. If he needs surgery, he will get it. Right now he is going through therapy which clearly is the best course for him at this time. They are not jeopardizing anything. They are following protocols that have been well established and are not based on what a fan thinks should take place.

The biggest issue with going the rehab route is the timetable. You are approaching the point where if rehab is not as effective as they hope, then surgery puts recovery near the regular season start date.

However, not going surgery allows Ryan to be ready for mini camps and offseason work with receivers.

Nobody is really certain on the full extent of the injury, but for him not to have surgery, the medical staff has to be pretty optimistic with his chances of successful rehabilitation without surgery.

Any time surgery can be avoided it should be avoided.
Should this knee injury heal on its own, Ryan will be better for it.

I do understand the concern regarding possible surgery down the road and the recovery time table then becomes an issue.
IMO, let the doctors, staff and especially Ryan Tannehill make this decision.
