I'll be honest about Devin Hester...dude has sick talent and he has what Deion Sanders calls "Next Man Speed." He may not be the fastest guy on the field, but he's faster than the next man chasing him. But the dude is about as dumb as a rock lol. I am very very surprised at how well he has grasped an NFL playbook. I told my friends in Chicago who asked me about Hester when they drafted him that by the end of the season, they would be getting Hester jerseys for Christmas. I've always said that he could be a very legit receiver if he could grasp an NFL playbook and now that he at least understand the concepts of an NFL offense and schemes, I think he can improve his game. It just proves to me how disorganized the Miami Hurricanes were under Larry Coker. I never understood how Larry Managed to keep his job after top Alumni and boosters like myself repeatedly called for his head.
I don't think Hester is the typical #1 receiver. I think he's better suited as a #2 guy in the slot because Hester's greatest strength was what he did after he got the ball. he has elusive speed and great field vision so he's an incredible threat in the slot and he draws the attention of the secondary which benefits the burner on the outside streaking down the sideline. He takes away the safety in most cases and allows the true #1 isolated coverage where in most cases, your primary target can go up and get the ball. He brings so many added dimensions to the field that it's insane.
