How good is Brent Grimes?

I rather sign Grimes for 1 year than Smith for 5.
Would of rather grabbed Lewis from Pitt but we needed a vet db.
Honestly Grimes after his ACL will be better than any db we fielded last year.

Bell came back pretty well...

Yeremiah Bell was consistently mediocre after that injury but was a fan favorite (probably because we were starved for talent). He was actually never good again after his achilles injury.

Bell had only started one year before his achilles injury in the first game of 2007. Yeremiah was always inconsistent in coverage but he was a very good against the run. Bell also looked faster after the injury, especially when he ran down KC's Jamaal Charles.

Grimes is a difference maker. Living in Sarasota I am subjected to ample amounts of Bucs coverage and talk. Grimes is Josh Freeman's worst nightmare. Bucs fans feared him and are extremely happy he is gone. If healthy, which the videos above look encouraging, hes a great zone guy who baits QBs into poor decisions and gets his hands on a lot of balls unexpectedly. Makes the plays when they are there and rarely gives up the big play. Wr's at times tend to pad some stats underneath on him but he's a willing and sure tackler. Also is a good locker room guy. Def feels he has a lot to prove this season.

Bell was one of the fastest defenders I'd ever seen before the injury, and while he only started a short time before his initial injury, he had several years as a primary backup, including one where he started most of the preseason before we signed Schulters, so there was a lot on tape.

When Bell first took to the starting lineup, we were something like 1-7. His playmaking ability was one of the main reasons why we upset the Bears and several other teams following that. The dude was everywhere and was a turnover machine. After that injury, he could break up passes when the coverage was there (something 3 other members of our starting secondary usually stunk at), but he simply didn't have the burst that made him a playmaker anymore.

Bill Parcells probably thought the same thing September 1994 before he watched Dan Marino humiliate his defense.

Yes, a QB who stands in the pocket and throws the ball is going to recover from an achilles injury the same way that a CB who is running down the field on every play will.
