I've read almost ever thread you Dolfans have written since Sunday night and the one thing I've noticed is many of you have over-rated the teams ability.. You're buying into the 11-5 record, rather than actually looking how well the team plays together..

The one thing I have noticed over the past few weeks and more importantly, Sundays game against the Jets.. The team has stepped it up a notch and there was some electricity in their play.. But is it good enough to win this weekend game??

Since I was bored last night and couldnt find anything worth watching on the TV.. I decided to replay the Jets game and to be totally honest.. I was troubled with the execution and (defensive) game planning of Sundays game and I would love to sit in on this weeks meetings to see whats going to be done to correct our mistakes...

This is my take on Sunday's game...

1) WE GOT LUCKY... The only reason we won is because the Jets gave the game away..

2) Brett sucked... All 3 interceptions was a result of Brett having a brain fart and not because of something out defense did to cause the interceptions.. They were bad-ill advised passes and a QB thats on his game would have never thrown those passes.. In my opinion Farve pulled a Ray Lucas and gave the game away..

3) Defensive play calling... It appeared to me that the Phins played mostly is some sort of zone defense.. The LB's responsibilities was to cover the receivers/TE/RB until they were physically passed on the field and then handed off that player to the safeties.. However the safeties were too deep and there was a huge area of open field and it made for too many easy receptions for 1st downs..

By playing in this bend, but dont break defense, I can see why we shut out the opponents 3 weeks in a row.. but a good talented offense will and have score with relative ease..

4) Renaldo Hill.. His play and his softness it a prime example of the defense.. I tried really hard to get into his psyche to figure out what he was thinking and what he was trying to do on the field.. In my opinion.. he took too many plays off and/or was afraid to get involved in a tackle..

To me.. it looked like he knew his role was to be the last man between the Jets player and the end zone and come helll or high water, he was going to be in position.. Which meant he left the tackling to the other 10 men on the field..

Also I noted, he is very quick to point out when someone else blew a coverage or was out of position..

6) Will Allen... Man he played one heck of a game.. He was all over the field and it looked like he was playing both CB and Safety... If only Hill would take notes, he might be a better player..

7) Channing Crowder... He had a decent game.. I wouldnt write home to Mom about it, but it wasnt bad... The only thing I have to say is he released the Jets player too soon and probably should have followed them into the secondary..

8) Joey Porter... In the 4th Qtr, on the last INT Farve threw.. He was the man in position that cause Farve to throw the ball high... except it was too high and fell into Goodmans hands..

Outside of this one play, the only other play I saw him involved with was the solo tackle on the one Jets wildcat play that resulted in a loss..

Other than those two plays... Porter was left quiet being blocked out be linemen and TE's... My suggestion to Mr Porter is if you want to be considered one of the toughest.. elite defensive players.. You need to step it up and stop living off your 17.5 sacks from games past...

8) Defensive pass rush.. Overall, the defensive line played one of the best games all year.. They kept the run game in check and did provide some pressure on Farve.. Because of the pressure, he was forced to release the ball early and many passes fell incomplete.. But at the same time, even when Farve was not under pressure, he was also guilty of leading the receivers too much and there was several passes that should have been caught... As a result of the inaccurate passing and the pressure caused by the D-line.. it made our secondary better than they really were...

9) Offensive line... They did a pretty good job of pass protecting Chad and for the most part... they manhandled the Jets D-line and overall I was quite impressed with them.. They really have gelled together since the 1st pre-season game against Tampa..

The only real complaint I have is number 57... 3 false starts.. nuff said..

10) Fasano... Damn fine adjustment on that TD catch... (Randy McMicheals who??)

11) Ricky... The guy ran hard and played tough... With the exception of the Wildcat pass play... and I have to quote our friend Homer Simpson.. "Doh"

12) Ronnie... He played the best he could and the best the Jets D would allow.. I applaud him for his tough play.. Now lets talk about his passing... It was the wind.. yeah thats it.. The wind caused the ball to go wide left..

12) Ginn... Yes it was a push off for a TD completion and did you know he fell down all by himself on that long pass from Pennigton in the 4th qtr...? Ginn beat the two defenders down the field and corrected very nicely splitting the defenders to come back for the ball.. However no one touched him when he fell to the ground.. It wasnt until after he was sprawled on the ground that he was tackled.. I couldn't tell if he slipped or was surprised he wasnt touched, but he fell to the ground as he tried to turn up field.. It reminded me of the criticisim he received earlier in the year where he was playing skerred and was afraid to get hit..

13) Bess.... Clutch.. Awesome.. I'll take 3 more of him...

Overall..

The Dolphins won that game because the Jets lost that game.. The game was up for grabs at any point and it was the Dolphins that wanted it more.. It was a great way to finish the regular season and if the Phins go One n Done in the playoffs.. I'm still very very proud of them and the turn around this season..

This week against the Ravens...

The one aspect of the game that scares me is when our defense is up against an accurate throwing QB with time to scope the receivers.. Our defense does not play tight man on man coverage and yes.. there are receivers open down field and any good QB can and will execute with ease..

Our defense against the run..

We've have given up some long drives that are a result of a balanced pass/run attack.. Should every man on our D come into the game with the mindset of putting the hurt on the Baltimore players.. Our D could end up shutting them down... Combine a tight secondary and hard hitting run stoppers.. Our D could very well win the game for us..

The only question is..... Will they ??

Our Offense against the Raven's D...

Scary... skeerred... frightening...

Honestly.. If each man on the offense takes personal responsibility to play their best game... We could over come Ray Lewis and his defense.. The one thing about this Ravens defense we can not over look.. from the opening kick off to the end of the game.. THEY WILL BE OUT TO PUT THE HURT ON..

Flacco might have the play-off jitters, but their defense wont.. There mission is to hit every Dolphin in sight and to hit them as hard as they can.. This is something the Jets defense didn't do and I have to question if our offense will be strong enough to match the intensity of the Ravens D..

However... With the right play calling and execution of the "trick" plays.. I believe the Dolphins can win the fight.. but its going to take smart play and personal dedication by all 11 players on the field.. The Ravens wont be giving the game away like the Jets.. and the only question that remains is the Dolphins going to step up to take the game away from them...??

I disagree, while Favre gave the game away is not completely out of the question, Miami made the plays when they needed them which is what wins games. Our D played well, not perfect but they didn't give up any big plays and did a good job of challenging their receivers. Pennington played very consistently and had no picks, and when the game was on the line we ran the ball at them and secured the win. Thats the way football goes in this league, it isn't always a dominating performance, I mean what exactly do you expect? The Jets are a good team no matter what anyone says, and they came to play that day. Favre just made some typical Favre like throws. I wouldn't take anything away from Miami, this was a very big game and they played good if not great. Yes Miami may not be the most talented team but I can tell you one thing, they have the most drive and heart that I have seen in awhile. Thet are the opposite of our playoff teams from the late ninetys early 2000's. Those teams were stacked with talent but had no heart and couldn't finish a game, this team is SO different. They are beating teams that have much more talent with nothing but will. I love this team this year. Cant wait for them to shut up the critics (as if they will ever shut up) by beating B-more .

Their preperation and chemistry on both sides of the ball makes up for the lack of talent. It doesn't matter how much talent you have if you're not playing as one unit (see Dallas) and that's what Miami is doing this year. They feed off eachother, and that's great. Imagine how good we'll be if we continue this mindset next year and have greater talent.

Miami Dolphins EARNED 11-5, they played really hard.

Sure they did have an Easy schedule, but look at Tampa Bay and Chicago Bears, they damn lose to teams with a Losing Record to miss the playoff.

While Dolphins beat a WINNING record team (The Jets) to clinch AFC East! So, it's NOT all about luck, it's Dolphins playing GREAT football!!!

I'm not talking down the team.. I love the chemistry.. I love (most) of the players... I love the offensive coordinator and the play calling.. I became big fan of Pennington and Sparano.. and I love what the team is doing...

BUT...

But I am still a bit reserved as to how good the team is and I'm trying to put this whole season into perspective.. Yeah, we are a good team.. Yeah we are AFC East Champs and we deserve to be.. But no... we arent a dominant football team and I believe its that domination that goes deep into the playoffs..

I think we can win this weekend, I hope we can win and I want us to win... However I'm fearful we might not win and if we dont, I want every DolFan to be proud of what we have and not live in the fantasy world thinking we're something more.. only to crash hard if we fail this weekend..

PS... I believe if we can get passed this weekend's game... We can go all the way to the AFC Championship game and maybe even the Super Bowl...

NO We are NOT dominate at all, we would dominate if we have much better players. But we are one of the Best because we find ways to win games and we play hard, we play pretty smart with just average players that says a lot!

I do not expect us to go far in playoffs, but a team like Dolphins DON'T give up is very Awesome!!! Much better than those teams that missed playoffs by losing to teams with losing records!

The Dolphins are better than the Ravens on Offense and almost as good on Defense. You're right. It's up to Ferguson and the middle of the line to stop their running game and we'll have this. The Ravens played Cleveland and Cinci. Dude, they didn't play as tough a schedule as we did. We're the 3rd seed and they're the 6th seed for a reason. We're better than they are.

I also watched the game twice. Tedd Ginn caught the ball got up to run and didn't plant his feet right and fell face first. Ronnie's feet were not planted in the right direction to throw an accurate pass to Haynos. I'll guarentee you they've worked to fix that. You're dead on about Hill. I had the same observations.

Going back to the middle of the line. On offense Satelle is going to have to at least hold his own like he did against the Jets. If he can do that then I think we can run the ball and win the TOP.

Well it sounds like you're taking away from the team to me... You're saying the Jets gave the game to us and that we didn't do anything to win that game. I'm pretty sure that's taking away from them...

well i admit we are not good enough to over come many mistakes but thats why we are so good we dont make mistakes... next year we will be awesome with some talent added on defense, our offense is really good just need time to gell

I think it's safe to say we are just an average team (In terms of Talent), but we play so hard, we become much Above Average!

Let me rephrase this.. The Jets made mistakes that cost them the game.. We took advantage of the mistakes to win the game.. However my whole point is the Ravens may not give us as many mistakes as Brett Farve and the Jets did..

The bottom line.. We capitalized on the Jets mistakes.. we won the game and the AFC East Divisional tittle... and for that reason alone.. The Dolphins are a good team!!

Thats correct I am saying.. IF the Jets didnt make 3 mistakes, they could have won the game..

#1 missed blocking assignment on our blocked punt

#2 Anyone of Farve three INT which killed the drive... but the INT by Merling was a 14 point swing...

#3 Cochery dropped pass inside our 10 to keep the drive alive..

But the fact is... They did make the mistakes, we took advantage of them and won the game to become the AFC East Champs.. So how is that taking away from the team??

ok they played bad but so did we, ricky doesn't usually drop passes right on his numbers, we had like what 7 false starts/offsides in the 1st quarter of the game. we also missed too many tackles which is not us

your full of **** dude if anything we almost gave the game to them the terrible snap on the punt... the penalties we NEVER have... not taking advantage of some of our big plays like we usually do we overcame all that and still won id say pretty easily your assessment is waayyy off

If this is your take on the game then I suggest you t take another look at the game because I'm not sure you are seeing things clearly.

1. We got lucky because we committed fewer mistakes than the Jets did? Generally the team that commits the fewest mistakes wins the game and we have being doing that most of the year. So what you might consider luck is part of the makeup for this Dolphins team in 2008.

2. If you watched all three of Favre's interceptions only one could be considered a Brett Brain Fart. That his first interception was because Goodman didn't bite on his pump fake and double move by Leon Washington. Favre's second intereception was a thing of beauty by Phillip Merling who read the screen pass to Washington and reacted to it. On Favre's third interception he had to throw over Joey Porter and as a result threw it too high and too hard for the receiver to catch it.

Hey as for right now.....today....12/31/2008 at 4:32 p.m. We are the AFC East Champions #3 seed in the AFC sitting with a 11-5 record.

When others didn't believe we did. Can Miami run the table? Can Miami beat the Jets in December? The answers were no.

We said yes. Because we believe. While I respect your reservations...I have none. We are going to be Super Bowl Champions.
