Trusnik is now in his 4th season as a Dolphin and he is now a team captain (for Special Teams). He stepped up big time when called in to play the mike role when Koa Misi went down. Joe Philbin rarely gives out praise to a player but said that Trus played well when called upon.
I'm guilty of only really considering him as a good Special Teams player and nothing more. I know that he is a very high character guy who the coaches clearly want on the roster to have survived each year, but he's always been seen as just an undrafted battler. Maybe he is much better than I thought. We need him to play well this week. Welcome other opinions.
(Wake and Grimes were also undrafted and initially battled to make a roster before becoming Pro Bowlers).

I have always said as long as he is on the team our depth at LB is poor. I have wanted him gone for awhile, with that said I am willing to eat some crow and say he played much better than I thought he would when he came in the game. Let's hope he keeps making me look bad although I don't really need much help with that.

He seems to make quick reads and always knows where he needs to be.

Just not the most athletic by today's NFL standards.

He's a good guy to have in reserve and on special teams but not someone to be starting on a regular basis.
i would think the other teams OC is licking his chops with him starting in the middle but i'll give him props for playing a great game last Sunday.

Hope he proves me wrong.

limits what you can do on defense a bit because he's a liability in coverage, but imo misi is a liability in coverage as well.

Special teams ace and seems like a company "yes" man. Nothing wrong with either. The FO and lockerroom enjoy having him around.

he was the reason gronk was wide open on the TD pass, grimes was expecting help from him. good special teams player though.

I've always been worried in the past when he's had to come in and sub, but the results from Sunday are good enough for me to feel better. He can't be that much slower than Misi I bet he wouldn't have done any better on that Gronk TD. I remember Trus getting beat badly by running QBs the true test will come this week against Buffalo's ground game it is much better than NE.
All that said fate has put him in the starting role they will reduce his snaps on ST hopefully there isn't too big of a dropoff there.

He's consistently been TERRIBLE when he sees playtime on defense. Like Coyle describes, he's a high motor and high intensity guy - you can't question his effort. With that said, that's about where the good qualities stop. He played above average on Sunday (other than the Gronk TD which I put on him), but I don't expect that to continue - I hope sooooooo much I am wrong but history does not bode well for him and us.
