How can the Dallas Cowboys afford to have to many good players on one team. Romo, Witten, Owens, Williams, Barber, Felix Jones, Zach Thomas, Ware, Spears. How do they have the cap space to sign all of these players? I mean they are about to sign Williams to a 5 year extension. Somebody please help me understand.

they barely have any cap room. Jerry Jones just got this deal done because, well, they do have a legitimate shot at a title this year and hes the kind of owner who does whatever it takes.

What I wanna know is why would he get Williams for THAT kind of value? He could have gotten Chad Johnson or Fitzgerald, or really any very top caliber player for that kind of value

You have to ask-
1. how many players that you listed did they get through the draft (you pay less for players you draft than you do for free agents)
2. how many of those players are playing out the last year or two with dallas before retireing
3. I kind of think that leaves owens and willaims. throwing free agent money at one or two players will not break your bank.

We too can be rich in players IF we keep drafting great players. but the second you start throwing free agents money, you start getting into trouble.

It's funny because only two of those players were acquired via trade or free agency (Thomas and Owens). Romo was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent.

This is just another example of how good teams are built via the draft (or via extremely fortunate rookie free agent pickups).

Although, despite all this "talent", the Cowboys have not won a playoff game in over a decade.

my friend whos a cowboy fan has told me that, jerry jones and rodger godell are good friends, maybe that has something to do with it..

Longhorn!!

Because he went to Texas!! They are opening a 100,000 seater next year, and any edge to make sure they fill those seats, and sell those PSL's they will take.. No brainer. But they WAY overpaid.. More power to em.. Gonna be interesting to see how he makes all of those personalities happy, and buy into the team concept...

Ha.

Because they pick late in the draft and don't have to pay gobs of money to unproven rookies.

You are 100% correct!!! We lived that dream for 17 years with only one losing season.

*I don't think I could ever thank you enough Dan Marino for those 17 amazing seasons I got to witness. I almost never felt like we were completely out of the game. I would NOT trade all those memories for one Super Bowl championship, although I know you would. Please groom one of your sons to be a QB! :boohoo:

Well, I guess Goodell's not THAT good of a friend or he'd have let Pacman go with a zero or one game suspension. :D

Seeing how Pacman was supposed to be ONE infraction away from permanent banishment, Jerry got a deal!

They do it like the Raiders, salary increases each year and then they cut the player before the end of the contract when the salary is at the peak.
