both Ron Wolf and Charley Casserly say it won't be until the 3rd year that we'll be a playoff caliber team. (meaning 2010)

I agree that it takes 3 years to gut a roster and rebuild it, but I believe that last year was the first year of our rebuilding.
As bad as our record was we had a really solid draft, and this year we have alot of cap room to sign some younger free agents who can be solid contributors for 4+ years.

I say growing pains this year, 5-8 wins, and then playoffs next year. Assuming of course Parcells (and his entourage) make the same quality of personnel decisions he has made in his previous stops.

never know. if we could pull off the dallas trade for #22 #28 2nd and barber like rumored, we could get some awesome players and start winning now if they play up to there potential. i'll give them 1 year to get use to the NFL but after that we should be good. with the trade would would be able to get...
CB, WR, OT, LB, TE, DE, DT...All with decently high picks and great talent. if we take the right people our team could be good. the right guys are in my signature.

just get a young QB this year again, there are some good ones in the draft this year, would be nice to have two young QBS

It's also going to depend on the development of the guys Saban and Mueller drafted or picked up. Guys like Jason Allen, Matt Roth, Rod Wright, Abe Wright, Joe Toledo, Ted Ginn, Quinten Moses, Paul Soliai, etc. If they can get good football players out of most of those guys, it could quicken the process. If most of them wind up as disappointments it could take a little longer.

It all depends on the draft this year, whether the players we draft will have impact on the team, or just be a waste. Teams can suprise in one year with good talent, look at the Texans. The Texans came out of no where this year but injuries killed this teams chances. We have the talent on the team but with all the picks we have in the draft, can the young players step up and make plays when it counts. This draft/offseason is everything about the future.

Excellent post. We have more ability and "potential" in our younger players than I can remember in a LONG while (and more of them). Now, can we develop a few into big time players? If so, a turnaround could be another great draft and FA offseason away. If these guys are all "just another body", then we are in for a long wait.

I think it will take 3 years before this team is competitive again. A major overhaul of the roster is in the works.

seee Green Bay Packers

Really don't think you can compare our situation to the Packers. They had one bad season in the middle of a bunch of playoff seasons. They've also had a lot more consistency in terms of leadership. I don't think they've gone through as many coaching changes as we've had or as many GM changes. And they've had Brett Favre this whole time. We have a totally new regime and we're riding a lot of years of mediocrity. I give a good 3 years before we are true contenders again. Maybe in two years, a wild card spot.

First I will say almost ALL fans are impatient and want a quick fix and I too fall in that group also seeing the year 2010 was weird and scary.

Now I have a different view on the phins '07 and what might '08 bring.

First I cant let go of the idea that the team had a cancer,Cameron and the players didnt mix and I wonder often if they laid down in hopes of his firing?

Second injury again no excuses but lets review... Z.Thomas, the heart of this defense missed a large part of the season, Y.Bell, the best player in the secondary-maybe 3rd best on defense-misses 15 games, V.Holliday 3 games into the season he is hurt and misses I believe 6 games...not to mention J.Porter misses all of training camp and it showed as his play didnt improve until late in the year when he started making plays.
Ofcourse a look on Offense will show that T.Green takes that one hit and is done, however one cant overlook how the "O" performed with Green leading the way, next Miami loses a pro-bowl calibur player in R.Brown(enough said)and lastly the continues health struggles of M.Booker.
Couple that with the trade of C.Chambers and some odd coaching decessions on some of the young players namely L.Booker & J.Allen and one starts to see that the talent pool here isnt as bare as the 1-15 team that ended the season.

Taking all that into consideration remember one stat this team lost 6 games by 3 points, now taking a fair view of that stat lets say they split those six games miami's win total would have been 4 now after a HC change(Saban to Cameron)many didnt expect much more than 4-5 wins, a more positive view would be maimi winning all 6 games and ending with 7 wins again in a year of turnover that would have been the best one should have expected however IMO the issues with Cameron superseeded all else and this team failed not so much because of lack of talent(there is ceratainly a lack of talent to be sure)but lack of leadership(QB mostly) and bad coaching.

Which brings me to '08,well lets go back to the 3 previous drafts where miami drafted Brown,Roth,Crowder,Daniels Wright, J.Allen,Hagen,Toledo,Ginn,Satele,
Beck,Mauia,L.Booker,Mormino and A.Wright ... I like to consider the idea that the youth movement has begun how many of those players will become solid starters versus just an NFL player time will tell BUT '08 brings the drfat that must turn the franchise around(Jimmy Johnson once said you have to get real bad to become real good) so here is Miami's chance to be real good a solid '08 draft which nets miami at worst the same 5 started that the '07 draft did and they should be on their way.

Latly the fact that miami plays in the AFC East isnt such a curse considering that after NE they compete against NYJ & Buffallo which both teams benefited by playing in a weak division the last 2 years(NYJ wild card '06-Buffallo playing for playoff spot till second to last week of season)miami can IMO realistically look for the same if they are able to hit on atleast those 5 starters in the '08 draft.

I think we can be pretty competetive this year if everything goes right..

Here's a perfect scenario :

Atlanta wins the coin toss and gets 3rd overall. We sell our "interest" in taking Ryan 1st overall..and slide down to number 3 pick AND D Hall (who's been extremely unhappy this year) or their 2nd.
Then, we can either still take one of the Longs, Ellis or whoever else we want. OR.....what would be even better, trade with Dallas for both of their 1st round picks and either Barber ( which is very unlikely) or their 2nd..or maybe their 1st next year. Players like Carpenter or Spears could be included as well.

Then we trade one of our 2nds for Chad Johnson, therefore,we get an elite receiver right away without trying to develop one. Don't forget, we already have Ted Ginn who's our "project". Why take that chance on another young guy when we can have a top 5 receiver in his prime?
With the rest of our picks we can get a decent TE, some young guys on D and possibly a project QB.

Obviously, chances of that happening aren't great, but the possibility is there. What do you guys think?

This team has the talent equivalent of an expansion team. A post earlier mentioned that any turnaround will be aided by the development of our young players already here. It's true to point, but not of those guys except for Ginn and Satele are impact players. The type of player that is a difference maker. When people site injuries last year as a reason for our poor record, you have to think of the caliber of players we lost. None were impact players. Bell had not proven anything for an entire season and Thomas is an aged linebacker.

At every key position: QB, LT, DT, CB, DE this team does not have a difference maker. I love this team, but I will be damn surprised if in three years this team is making a run to the playoffs. Of course, if we get lucky and land a QB, than nothing else matters does it?

Yes we were the worst in the NFL but that doesn't say we weren't competitive. Not ALL our games were blowouts. We could have easily had a much better record... it wont take long... we're on the cusp of greatness!
