I was just wondering. With the list of FA's pretty much complete, and mock drafts relatively accurate or agreed upon, do you think Saban can fill ALL our needs in one off season.

We do need OL, DBs, QB (being adressed, but more than likely going to eat more cap space than anticipated), & LB. So my question to you is, where do you think he will cut corners, if any at all? Our cap position isn't the greatest, and the release of J. Seau should clear another 2.5. However, I am somewhat pesimistic of our current ability to fill all gaps.

The backfield worries me as well. It is critical that Bell stays healthy, which was his downfall in the past. I don't think you need a reminder of who we let go, but we better make some moves in this area.

I know Saban will do the best he can with our current situation, however, I remain realistic in the sense that we will have to sacrifice one area of our game, be it the OL, or the DBs.

If Nick wants you, you will come. You don't dare turn down Saban. Yes I think our needs will be addressed in pretty much everyway.

I think it will take two offseasons to legitimately fix all the problems. Miami needs a complete makeover of the secondary, better talent on the offensive line, a young DT in the Bowens/T. Washington mold and a linebacker to replace Junior Seau. In the secondary I like Daniels, but I'm not even sure he's a long-term starter - maybe at safety because he is a better tackler than cover guy. Assuming he can continue to improve, there are still three positions up for grabs. On the offensive line, Miami really needs an above average LT so that players like McMichael's can do what he does best and get more involved in the passing offense. I'm not convinced yet that Carey is a long-term guy either. I think he might be just average, although he could improve significantly as well since last year was essentially his first as a starter.

But, assuming the Dolphins can sign Brees, I'd have to think they could challenge even with a few holes here and there. I look at it this way, if Miami had Brees last year they would have won a couple of more games and maybe the AFC East title as well.

To me it looks like the QB problem will be solved, and by the sounds of it some O-Line help should be coming as well. I like Daniels, and Poole at corner, but having alot of youth in the secondary always worries me.

The offensive line could be very well be fixed in free agency with Tom Ashworth coming in as an experienced tackle. A center might be drafted, or we might just shuffle players around. Also, remember Wade Smtih was converted to center before his injury.
Defensive backs are what scare me most, and it's something that should be addressed via the draft. We saw what a 4th rounder in Daniels could do (though to be fair, he had experience in the system) and Will Poole is returning so we're in better shape than most think. I can see us taking a safety or a CB in the second round because we take.....
Chad Greenway (OLB) in the first round. Absolute monster, immediate starter, missing piece in a very strong LB corps. That might take care of all our glaring needs.

I like what he has done so far, and I likewhat it looks like he is working on for the future. Saban is the man

I agree. Many people here suggest we take a DB first round, but that would leave Poole, Daniels, and whoever we draft. Though in a couple of years that backfield has the potential to becoma a black hole, I'm not sure I'm willing to live with the growing pains for the next year or two. I just want a vet in here to hold things down. This position will be exploited the most due to our cap limit, so we better have a excellent pass rush again this year.

OL could be fine, HH did a fine job, and should continue to continue to do so. Alabi could suprise many. If anything, I think this would be adressed next off season, with a MAJOR over hauling.

I am not worried about LBs either, Spragan and Pope should do, they impressed me. There is defenitly room for improvement, but I DO NOT want to see a free agent LB being signed before a DB though!!

Excellent post. According to this mock, Greenway is available too.

Realistically, I think it takes us two years to get deep into the playoffs, possibly SB in year 2 or 3 (though not neccessarily a win)

The Homer in me, well...I'm pretty sure you can figure that out

I complete have faith in Saban until he shows me otherwise. He hasn't given me anything to worry about so far

GO PHINS!
