DAVIE — Only four NFL teams were worse against opposing passers than the Miami Dolphins last season.
Too often, defensive backs were left speaking about their failures to execute, and more disturbingly, their failures to communicate.
It cost long-time defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo his job, part of a broad off-season coaching staff shakeup by coach Adam Gase. First-year defensive backs coach Tony Oden and assistant defensive backs coach Renaldo Hill have been hired to fix the problems.

Were there problems in the DB field? sure, but if the Dline can start to consistently bring pressure against opposing QBs that would surely help.

That for sure helps, and so does adding LBers that aren’t liabilities in coverage. Having Maluga and Timmons back there gave opposing QBs such an advantage. Kiko was embarrassing in coverage, but was the only option. Baker and McMillian bring so much more speed and coverage to the table.

Lack of chemistry and experience should help this group a lot. We had a rookie starter who didn’t have the benefit of being a starter in camp, as he was behind Maxwell. Our safety was suspended for 8 games, and was first year on the team. Nate Allen simply not being on our team will hep a lot.

1st round pick who was 2-3 best defender in the draft should change this group. Hopefully Fitzpatrick can give this group some fire, help generate more turn overs.

They were really bad at the beginning of the year, but we released the biggest culprit.
Agree. Feel like the unit progressed later in the season. Howard especially took his game up and looks like he could be a lockdown corner. Plus the addition of Fitzpatrick, the return of Lippett and another year in the system for Tankersley bodes well for Miami.

I feel great about the DBs actually. That's our best unit on D. Fitzpatrick and Jones are gonna be great. McCain finally stepped into his own. Howard and Tank will benefit from a better secondary coach, plus lippett will provide good competition

Tony Oden is the best hire this team has made in forever.

I expect huge leaps from X, Tank and McCain. Not to mention Lippett.

Having a legit FS with range and smarts will be a huge add, Fitz is a freak of nature and will be one of the best FS in the NFL year one. He’s that kind of talent.

I think McDonald fits in there too... I don't know where, but he's a weapon vs. The run so somewhere close would be nice

I hope the secondary gets their swag back. I don't know the DB coach, but hopefully he's knows his stuff. I wonder how Deion Sanders would do as a db coach?

It all starts up front. If we can have a consistent pass rush then our secondary will be much better. If the QB has all day to pass then it's hard to cover NFL receivers for very long. You need a real pass rush up front and the DB's will be fine.

Talent wise the db is there at the top of the team along with DE.

McCain on the boundary and Fitz in the slot should it end up that way as the nickel starting unit will wear a target.

I’d much rather see it be Tank or Lippett on the boundary and McCain in the slot with Fitz at safety

Appears the guy who is looking at taking a snaps hit is McDonald.

Good thing he’s only making $1.8 mil in 18
