I have no idea how they're #1. Buffalo and New England shredded them on 3rd downs. I think it's more of just the entire league is getting torched on 3rd downs.

The only thing I can figure is maybe we let teams drive down to the red zone (where it's easier to defend) using only 1st and 2nd downs.
This board is the most bipolar place from week to week.

If 2 runs equals a first down then your 3rd down defense is intact. Still, can't argue with the stat. It's impressive, especially with these linebackers.

Fins currently have 2 back-up safeties, 1 back-up CB, 2 back-up OLB all starting.
It's a season ranking so early on when the Fins had Reshad Jones, IAQ and others they were great on 3rd downs. Playing with an all 2nd string secondary pretty much and back-up's at 2 of the 3 linebackers....OF COURSE THEY WILL GET SHREDDED ON 3rd DOWN NOW! It's almost a second string back-7 unit behind the d-line.

Very. 3rd down stops matter little when you can't stop offenses on 1st and 2nd down.
What season are we ever going to go through with no injuries though? We aren't. The Packers are playing tonight with 4th stringers. Every team has a bunch of injuries this time of year. They didn't have GRONK! First game they didn't have Brady lol
