---- How strong is Jake Long?

i put up four plates on each side of the bar yesterday, for four reps, and i am a 20 year old college student who weighs 190lbs. 500 pounds for an NFL left tackle doesn't impress me very much.
How tall are you and what sports do you play?

5'10. obviously i have a shorter distance to get down to parallel than someone who is 6'7 like big jake, but he's still an elite level athlete.

Being an elite level athlete doesn't automatically make you stronger than anyone else, especially when you are training for functional and not absolute strength.

I don't know how Jake Long's strength compares to other NFL LTs but here is a list of the top bench presses from the NFL Combine since 1999.

I don't know why he's not on there....but Manuel Ramirez (Guard / Texas Tech) also did 42 reps at the 2007 combine....

If you'll pay attention...you'll notice that offensive lineman from programs that feature a predominantly passing attack (Texas Tech, BYU, Arizona, Hawaii, etc.) tend to lock out a lot of reps....pass blocking to that extent requires much more upper body strength....which is also why their lower body is usually under developed....and why they have a hard time run blocking in the NFL....

Samson Satele would also obviously fit the bill here...

idk. but my friend is a freshman in highschool squating 450lbs. max of course. and another buddy of mine is in 8th grade squating 470lbs (freak of nature). also there is a senior in my highschool benching over 500. so if jake is maxing at 500, doesnt seem to be that impressive.

Now that I look at that list, there was a few omisions from 2007. NC State's Tank Tyler did 42 reps. Manny Ramirez was credited with 40, not 42, and Texas's Justin Blaylock also did 40.

Dude, Jake Long is REPPING 500 lbs., not maxing.

Your friends should see how much weight they can do 9-12 LEGITIMATE reps with. Probably like 275 lbs. Jake's doubling that.

Also, his bench press MAX is NOT 500. See how many LEGIT bench press reps you can do with 225 lbs. Jake did 37!

I am a pretty avid lifter, I can do 19 legit reps of 225. I am 6ft,205. I can't imagine double that!
