With Capers' reputation as a great 3-4 coach and Mularkey's penchant to run more (than Linehan), how will our personnel be affected by adding these guys to the coaching staff?
I think the need to bring in a great outside linebacker has just become more important. Looking at free agency, Peterson has been talked about a lot. As far as the draft, perhaps Chad Greenway has just moved into the 16th spot in the first round. If we run more 3-4 schemes then we don't have the urgent need for a DT, if Vickerson can clog up the middle or Traylor comes back for another year. Maybe Wright can also be trained to play the NT in a 3-4. I like Greenway because of his speed, size, and ability to rush the passer.
As far as Mularkey goes, the tight end becomes more important. I have Jeff King on my board in the 7th, but I think we will bring in someone to compete at this position. Definetely, the O-line, especially center-guard becomes more important. Mularkey likes shifts, traps, and misdirection running plays, so I would except someone fleet of foot who can run block well. Yes, Hutchinson would be the dream pick, Bentley would also be a great additon. This means Hadnot is not as good a fit, but James is a very good fit.
I'm also hoping that Ronnie becomes more of a receiver next year, especially in the H-back mold. We didn't use him enough in this capacity during the season, in my opinion. Honestly, with Ronnie, Chambers, Booker and McMichael we have a very formidable receiving group, if properly utilized. By using Ronnie more as a receiver, it would also make it easier to share time with Ricky. Ronnie will get his carries, but I think having him in as a triple threat makes us much more dangerous.
