Ross apparently made his decision to keep Philbin after the Patriots blowout loss (likely upon hearing that Harbaugh was earmarked for Michigan). He said this was the case. So if this is true, Ross would theoretically have kept Philbin at 7-9 after 4 straight losses to end the season.

The Vikings win gave him a feel-good opportunity to broadcast this news. If the Dolphins had lost that game, I doubt he comes out and says Philbin is coming back, even if he had made that decision in his own mind. Now, if they lost that Vikings game and finished 7-9, how would he have been able to spin this to the fanbase? Or do you believe he would have changed his mind and canned him without needing to save face?

That a Vikings win was a costly empty victory indeed!

Unless you're on staff and liable to be fired, 7-9 and a top 10 pick would have been preferred.

He wouldn't have spun it any different. He can be an idiot it's his folly

That's what's crazy about this. Another December meltdown and the coach gets endorsed before the season fully plays out.

He wouldn't have to spin anything, he's the owner. He gets to screw with his billion dollar trinket anyway he sees fit. It's us, the actual fans, who have actual love for the team who feel the pain. It'd be delivered in the same Goodfellas style "**** you, pay me" way it was delivered after the Vikes game.

He should have just kept his damn mouth shut and evaluated at the end of the season

Ross couldn't have spun it. And we would have a new coach.

I am fine with the stability though, because I expect solid player moves and another great draft from this regime. If that happens, we will be in good shape no matter what.

Why do you think he was so elated after the Vikings win. It wasn't cause of the actually win. He actively sought out reporters and announced philbin was coming back before he was asked. Ross had is out.

Yea 8-8 again that's so great

The Vikings loss might have sent back the franchise another 3 years...

This team is stuck in purgatory.
