on a scale of one to ten, how would you rate our team talentwise if one is the lowest and ten is the highest?

.... At this point in the offseason I would say we are a solid 8. We have a lot of talent across the board but still can improve in a few positions.

It's hard to rank a team overall like that. I'll take a stab however. Our starting lineup ratings: (10 being best player at his posistion in the NFL, 1 being worst.)

QB: 8
RB: 7
FB: 9
WR: 7 (Chambers & Booker)
TE: 8
OL: 6
DE: 8 Taylor and Carter
DT: 7 Holliday and Traylor
LB: 8 Thomas, Crowder and Hodge/Newman/Spragan
CB: 7 Allen and Poole
S: 6 Allen and Hill
K: 7
P:7
Special Teams: 6

Overall: 7

That was kind of just a rough guestimate.

those are some pretty good estimates but you are underrating some positions. Our starting quarterback and defensive ends should be about a 9. Also I would have to rate our offensive line a little higher based upon last year.

i'd go with about a 7. Very good rating, since i doubt there's a 10 team in the league, and we're definately a more than solid team. We do have some question marks at reciever, o-line, and in the defensive backfield (not a lack of talent per se, but just unproven players).

I have to agree with a lot you are saying... The one area that really worries me is the defensive backfield. We have a lot of talent there but most of the players there are young and unproven. It may take them a while to get used to each other.

I'd give it a 7, for being basically solid to good at most positions, but too many question marks at QB, DB and OL to justify a higher mark.

I'll use a scale where 7.5 or 75 is a completely bare team and a 9.9 or 99 is completley stacked.
A team like the 49ers would be 7.9,
Pats 8.8
Steelers an 8.9,
Colts an 8.9...
and the phins.........................

8.7

I'd hafta go with an 8 on the 1 - 10 scale.

I would give Culpepper a 9, but last year has to bring him down a little bit. I believe he will bounce back, but until he does, he's an 9.

As for DE, Taylor is a 9.5, but Carter is about a 7 so I give them an 8.:)

Solid 8 sounds good. If the DB situation works out, LB stay healthy, and the O-line jels, that's a 10 my friends!

I voted a solid "8". Our secondary should be much better with all the FA additions and the drafting of Jason Allen, plus having Capers with all his exotic blitz schemes.

The question marks are at NT, LB, O-Line (which I think we'll be fine at) and QB (If Daunte is able to start on time, and if not, how well will Joey play).

Saban did as much as he could to improve this team over the offseason and I think he did a great job. Rome wasn't built in a day, but Saban has turned this team from a 4-12 nightmare into a legitimate playoff contender. Kudos to Nick!

That's exactly why I give us a 7, the unknows in the secondary, it's hard to be better there, when it's their 1st year in the system..if Tillman, Bell, Daniels and W. Allen starts the season then they maybe a 8, since most of those guys are in their 2nd year of the system, but if 3 of the 4 are in their 1st year, then there's the gelling time you have to consider and that means breakdowns early on.
