Once he signed his rookie contract, he was obligated to fulfill it; no matter how you THINK it should be in a perfect world, this is basic contract law.
You can gripe about whether it is fair or not, but a contract is a contract... and he didn't follow it.
If he'd been an honorable man, he likely would have come out with a better result... like with keeping his job and upward contract mobility, but now he's tarnished his reputation and had to settle for an iffy two year contract.
Bell did it right and prospered, Gordon... not so much.
