Its always fun to watch NFL irony. How many times have the dolphins beat a team and that team go on to win the Superbowl? I had the answer for that a couple of years ago- I believe we have the record.

How about this- the last time we had a Ginn on the Dolphins we went to 3 Superbowls and went undefeated… Lets hope we get a little NFL irony with Ginn.

Someone watched the story of the 72 Fins on the NFL network today. Me too LOL, man do I miss Shula.

actually if that were to happen it would only be coincidence...irony is the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning

one might argue the first instance would be irony if reversed (the dolphins lose to the worst team in the league but go on to win the superbowl) but even that is a stretched definition of the term, sorry no irony

Thanks I get irony...Lets hope its not irony in its literal sense-Ginn being a 3rd stringer with very little impact on the team...i.e. Ginn being on our 72 team but he had nothing to do with us being undefeated.

The beauty of the English language is if you think real hard you can find a way to make a word work. Ah poetry...

im trying to find the irony in that, but would still just be coincidence

irony is very hard to find in life and most times coincedence is mislabled as irony, there needs to be a literal misrepresentation to indicate irony, aka, a health spa with an incredibly high death rate, or if ginn's name were "championshipmaker" and the team didn't win a game (the name would be ironic, weak but im just trying to bring this back to ginn)

im sorry but the thread in and of itself is a waste of a post, im not trying to be mean, its an interesting coincedence that on our 72 undefeated team there was a player with the same last name as our first round pick. woo hoo. but labeling it ironic is incorrect, and honestly, a small discussion on irony and how it relates to sports (broadcasters overuse the term constantly, tony fiorentino is god awful about its use) is more meaningful than anything that would be posted otherwise, no offense to the thread starter, but there isnt much more out of that statement than "cool coincedence"

im done, so sorry to interrupt, proceed

Okay yes you are right in the way the dictionary defines irony, but the way it is used by people (even though it is wrong) makes it acceptable to use in the way he did.

Drop it.

Oh and the cat in your avatar looks like my cat.

So would it be considered ironic to write a song titled "Ironic" in which no irony is mentioned?

You are right! We have far too few threads on…
1) How will Ginn will do?
2) Saban is a Liar
3) Ricky’s head is in the cloud.
4) Daunte is a bum- will be traded
5) Beck is the second coming

Should I stick to the formula or should we wait until the off-season is over before we post again?
