Many of us have not seen enough play out of Lemon to really evaluate what kind of QB he really is.

As I watched Mon. game against the jets I did notice a couple of things that were very interesting.

1) On 2 plays he bootlegged out and made some nice throws on the run.
Why did we stop calling those plays if they worked?

2) He has a nice zip to his ball, and was looking DOWNFIELD, not looking for the dump off. Thats the biggest difference I saw from Harrington.

3) Is it me or does he look a little thin for the QB position. I hope he remains durable.

4) He has a sence of urgency to him, he looks like the speed of the game is not ahead of him. He had a quick release and was accurate.

5) Most important thing I saw was his willingness to not let the pocket collapsing dictate his play. I really like that in a QB.

These are just the small things I noticed on Sun.

I hope we really evaluate the QB position in the off season.

I predict we will go another year without drafting a QB early. But I think thats what we need. At least a second rounder for insurance in case CPEP or Lemon dont work out. Unfortunately drafting a 1st rounder may send the wrong message to our other QBs. Plus the money we will have sitting on the bench.Thats why I think we wont do it.
I hope Lemon works out, I see some nice things in him. We could run the same offense with Cpep and Lemon. They both have the zing and can run when healthy.

Go phins!

P.S. We are just one piece away from the playoffs, lets be good fans and support our team.

Lemon did pretty well. There were two throws that were awful. His very first throw, to the right sideline, was WAY late and could have been a pick. And the other was the one that hit the guy right in the hands and he dropped it. Other than that, he did very good. He is better when he is able to move.

I believe Mularkey is on a conditional 4 year gig. I may be wrong though. Saban has voiced concern over the play calling. The only problem is shuffling to another O coord. means more transition learning.

Why didnt Saban take over play calling? Is it because hes not an offense kind of guy? Who knows all I ask is pound the rock and test the secondary on play action, is that too much to ask?

I think Mularkey stays for at least next season, Nick has preached continuity before.

Maybe we didn't stick with those bootleg plays because they weren't designed??

Cleo does look a little thin, he's listed at 215 but clearly he could do with slightly more bulk, doesn't look like he has the frame to add it though. I don't think this will be a worry for him because he is agile enough to avoid a few sacks so he won't take a beating every game.

I like what I've seen from him so far, enough that I think we can go for another season without drafting a QB, you never know- he could turn out to be our Tom Brady/Tony Romo  One can only hope.

If anyone here remembers training camp, I stated several times that Lemon was showing signs of possibly beating out Harrington. Unfortunately, it never materialized once the pre-season started. I'm still not certain he's as capable as Harrington as a #2 QB, but we'll see what he can do Sunday. I wish him luck....

PHINZ RULE!!!

Did you go directly into ronnie brown's face and tell he sucks?
Did you tell saban what a horrible draft pick he made?

It wasnt the call? The 2 linemen pulled in sink after the snap. Believe it, it was the call. We used that for CPEP early in the season and dropped it for Harrington.

I'm sure your observations were very valid, but Saban kept saying that he wanted a backup with "skins on the wall." I think for that very reason, he was going to let Harrington run the show if Culpepper couldn't simply based on experience. It makes common sense to let a QB with over 50 starts in this league take over when your #1 guy goes down than it does to let a guy who has never taken a snap play. I personally think that was the ONLY thing the decision was based on. Now you can throw that out the window and give the guy a chance.

I wouldn't say it was the ONLY thing, but certainly a majority. I'm sure if Harrington was posting his 0.0 passer rating's in pre-season, Lemon starting in place of Culpepper would have been a much higher consideraton....

But you're right, Harrington's experience was a major factor no doubt....
