Hurricane Irma Only thread

FPL does look like it's making some progress. Surprisingly with all the trees down around here, I was fortunately one of the approx 1/3rd of all Broward accounts that never lost power (and had Comcast internet/phone intermittently) Between the change of Irma's course and the retention of power, I know I am very very lucky and wonder if Karma will come knocking somewhere down road.

Running off generator for 3 days now, cell towers are down but thank God for satellite internet and direct tv. Watched my first football game last night finally.

Omg we got power back. Apparently the main intersection by the house had a tree or something that pulled the traffic signal down and that caused the power to go down around the area.

Immediately started charging my power bricks just in case lol.

All in all a little over 2 days, really cant be upset about that.
Yes you can. And you should.

A reminder guys. This thread it for discussion of our brothers affected by the hurricane. Any political or football related discussions go in other threads or forums.

Be safe everyone. Lots of power lines still down.

In 2011, up here in CT, we lost power for 11 days straight.
Luckily for us, the temps were mild: not too hot, not too cold.
We just ran the furnace each evening for a few hours.

You guys must be boiling down there with no AC.

If you don't shop at Aldi if you have one in your vicinity, you're doing it wrong and wasting your money on commercialism and labels.
Aldi is crap here and they are crap in Germany (that's where they are from thus the quarter for the shopping cart).
They are currently facing a court date overseas for rebranding goods without permission and redating. I wouldn't be surprised if they do it here as well.
When they started down here it had 90% German stuff incl my favorite peanuts flips. When Winn Dixie said slowly good bye (thankfully) Aldi started taken over that market. Buying food from Walmart or Aldi is like eating expired dog **** of which the latter is still the better choice.
Why not buy food at the Dollar Store?

Wow, stoked to hear a lot of people making it through fairly unscathed. When Sandy hit in Jersey my family didn't have power for a little over 2 weeks. It's interesting hearing you guys talk about how bad the heat is without AC available, for us it was the total opposite. Even though it was early fall temps would get down to the low 40's at night so you'd have to sleep with a zillion blankets. Ice cold showers in the morning before work still haunt me.

Yes you can. And you should.

Was this meant as a joke? Because, moderator or not, if it was not, than this is total BS and ungrateful as hell. People are working their asses off and doing their best to help us get our lives back on track. It's unfortunate, but sometimes repairs take time because the utility workers can't be everywhere at once and when they do get there some repairs that are very involved. As Americans we take too much for granted and sometimes we are so spoiled we don't even realize how good we really have it.

Hell yes they were. I've never experienced a tornado in my life. Were you scurrying away to the closet like I was?
We just ran in the closet every time the Amber alert chime went off without even checking. We were just that used to it in time. :nailbiting
