HYDE: Beck on a mission to be the best

GREAT article!

This was my favorite part:
[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica][FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica]South Florida bound

For some draft-day fun, Beck's family and friends wrote down the team they thought would draft him. That morning, he had told his wife, "Hey, I think we're going to end up in Florida."

But for the draft-party pool, he chose Detroit. They had shown the most interest (as well as asked the strangest question: What is your favorite movie? Answers: Rudy and The Count of Monte Cristo).

But as teams ticked off through the first round, Mueller sent Beck a text message: "Are you OK?" Beck wrote back: "My wife wants a tan, and I'm wearing flip-flops."

When the Dolphins' second-round pick arrived, Beck's phone rang with a 954 area code. The room erupted. After a minute of talking with a team scout, Beck blurted out, "Are you guys going to take me or not?"

Cameron took the phone. "Do you think your wife and Ty are ready to live here?" he asked.

Nice personal article. As a fan I forget sometimes about the personal aspects of these guys. It's one of the things that makes the man...and gives you some insight as to how well grounded this guy is...At least we won't have to worry about his maturity level...

beck is like a pair of dirty underwear. He just grows on you. Really the more i see of this kid the more i like. He all ready hasndles the media better than a.j feeley and harrington combined. I think we may have found a solid pick with leadership skills with beck for the first time since the jax game in the playoffs im excited about the qb position in miami

Sure Quinn was the attractive pick, but Beck could quite possibly of been the correct pick. I really hope he pans out, he seems like a real easy guy to like.

Good read.

Especially interesting point.... Quinn was coached by Weiss....has Quinn already developed about as much as he is going to?
Beck was coached by a handful of nobody's but still did very well. What level will Beck reach with some decent coaching?

Maybe its the homer in me but Im very optimistic about Beck.

Three page write up about Beck, this kid seems like a good character and football person pickup. I hope he works out...

Enjoy..

Very good article. Thanks for the link.

So no one heard the story line about: an Eagle Scout who doesn't touch alcohol but played his sophomore year at Brigham Young with a separated shoulder that was numbed with Novocaine each Saturday; a Mormon missionary who was the Mountain West Conference's Offensive Player of the Year as a senior while secretly playing on two sprained ankles, his right one so bad it was put in a boot every week; the son of a national pole-vault contender and father of a baby boy named after former NFL quarterback Ty Detmer.

First of thanks for the link...excellent article...

Seems we have ourselves a moral, ethical, down to earth and matured man for our future leader...

He's a great guy, he's going to be a great leader too, he can't be anything more than a positive influence on the players around him, once he figures out the whole NFL thing (which takes time) we are going to have a heck of a winner on our hands. I see him being like a Phil Simms type of player, a leader and a very coachable guy, I think he has those important qualities you need as a QB to be a winner, alot of the game is mental, you do need the physical tools which he has shown he does have, that's why i'm so intrigued by this selection , time will tell but you can't help to be excited cuz he does have the making to be great one day.

I think the toughest thing for Beck as a college QB was inconsistency in a system. His Senior season at BYU was the first year that he had played in the same offensive system two years in a row. Hopefully his exposure to several different systems will help him adapt more quickly.

It's pretty tough to predict how any college QB will turn out in the NFL....but I am very hopeful that John Beck will pan out in the NFL.
