One of the first football cliches I ever heard was, "You can never have enough healthy cornerbacks to start a season."

At least I thought it was healthy cornerbacks. The current Dolphins management seems to think it's, "You can never have enough cornerbacks with questions to start a season."

Age questions. Health questions. Talent questions. Even rhetorical questions, as cornerback Bobby McCain asked after a second preseason game where the cornerbacks did nothing to change their flashing-neon-light status to opposing quarterbacks.

We had lots of holes to fill when Adam Gase came on board. We probably filled some of them but others, like cornerback, remain. I'm a bit surprised that we gave up so much to move up to take Carroo in the 3rd round of the Draft but someone was clearly smitten with him (and Drake). Chris Culliver's health is a factor in strengthening our cornerback position. Xavien Howard gets his opportunity this week. Yes, we are thin but Defensive Coordinator, Vance Joseph has a good track record of developing DBs. Hopefully, players will step up to the challenge. It is significant that people like Tannenbaum and Grier clearly prioritized the O-line and D-line ahead of investing in the DBs.

Have to get something out of Howard and Culliver Im hoping otherwise its the weakest spot on the team Im afraid.

Really just not looking forward of them getting abused the whole season. Hopefully as the season progresses we can at least see improvement.

You have WR's in our division that are going to really test this group.

While I agree CB is the weakest area of the team and does present area of concern, but if the front 7 can apply enough pressure it will do alot to help the young secondary. We aren't the only team with this issue. Most would consider the Panthers as one of the favorites to again make a super bowl run and they are starting two rookie CBs, in Bradberry and Worley, and their first perimeter backup Sanchez is also a rookie. Add to that Benwikeree is their starting nickle and he has only 10 career starts and they lost both starting safeties from last year. Yet with all of that they are still talking like their secondary might be better than last year.

It's all a matter of attitude. If you have had success you expect things to work out. If you are used to losing you expect things to go wrong. It's hard to change the mind set but once you experience some success things can turn around quickly. The sky is not yet falling folks, we just need a break or two and we will be fine.

Our offense also....FOR ONCE IN THE LAST 15 YEARS.....needs to establish leads early, so that we force teams to pass. Once we know they are going to pass, we can rely on our alleged strength, the defensive line. Run stunts, do whatever you have to do to get the quarterback, keep everything in front of our mediocre CB's, and hope they at least wrap up.

Crossing fingers hasn't worked for Miami in 15 years. Hopefully Miami finds some decent corners in roster cuts

True, if the offense can put up consistent points also, it would sure help us stay competitive in games.

Translation: Tony Lippett is really bad and will be athletically outmatched and outclassed by most WRs that he faces. We really should have not traded away so many 3rd and 4th rd picks and used them on CBs and OGs.

The Jeff Ireland Effect will still be felt for a few more years!

yep. Entire discussion is moot if Will Davis and Jamar Taylor turned out to be the players they were supposed to be. Oh - and we didn't trade Vontae for a sack of donkey dung.

So next year the focus is on LB, OG, and CB. If we get 3 or so starters there then we will be competitive for sure. For now we just have to hope.

They traded for Maxwell and traded up for Howard in the 2nd. That's a lot to invest in one position in one off season, but they also brought in Culliver.

Making an attempt and doing it right are 2 different things though. Humongous swing and a miss this offseason at corner. It'll be about week 8 before fans realize that after its shoved in their faces consistently, sadly.

Then we get to look forward to the barrage of excuses for why it's not their fault and some other manufactured bull****. Every year.

I think that it's way to early to say sat we whiffed at CB this off season with Maxwell and Howard but I would have drafted another CB.
