1. Charles Harris hasn’t impressed the Dolphins. Why else go out and get another high-priced right defensive end?
2. Quinn can help. Of course he can. He returns to his natural defensive end in a 4-3 system after a season at outside linebacker in Wade Phillips’ 3-4 system.
3. They really should have signed Olivier Vernon. Or more accurately: They really should have done a a better job at replacing him.
4. Someone else must be going. You can’t take on Quinn’s $11 million next year without thinking someone’s out the door in a trade or release. Julius Thomas and Lawrence Timmons (and probably Ja’Wuan James) already are out the door.
5. The beat for other team’s hand-me-downs goes on.

It’s simple, we like rotating the DL very heavily. Having another DE and allowing Wake to come off the bench in passing situations is ideal. I have always liked the idea of that NASCAR package the Giants had back in the day with the 4 DE on passing downs.

I think Thomas, Timmons both get cut and if James doesn't take a big pay cut then he's gone too. All that plus once Landry's off the books will give us more than 30mill under the cap.

Hyde is clueless on most issues involving the Dolphins. This trade was not a reflection on Harris at all. You can make the argument about how smart it is for a team of this caliber to take on another high priced veteran contract, but to make the argument that they should have paid Vernon even more money than Quinn or that the Dolphins are dissatisfied with Harris is ludicrous. It has more to do with Wake being old and Branch coming off an injury.

DE: Wake + Quinn (proven pass rushers), Harris (still developing), Malveaux (who shows some promise holding the edge), and Branch (who we can’t get rid of) .... so that is 5 currently on the roster. Don’t think we will bring back Hayes or Fede .... so we will bring in more through Draft + UDFAs.

DT: Suh (proven), Phillips (coming around), Gadchaux + Taylor (showing promise). We might bring back Wright as a RFA ... but just like DE, we will bring in more through Draft + UDFAs.

We will have a chance to get a top DL at #11 ... but do we? Can’t get Chubb, but some of Vea, Payne, Bryan + Davenport will be there. I just think that we don’t.

The challenge is I think the FO will ‘think’ they can get as lucky as they did last year with Gadchaux, Taylor + Malveaux .... while possible, is not highly likely. Regardless, we need at least 4 additional bodies for camp!

Some people are saying is a reflection on Harris and others are saying is a reflection on Wake but really, it's a reflection on the fact that our pass rush was bad last year so we added a good one. People overthink everything too much when in fact is very simple. You win with pass rushers. Look at the super bowl. Both defenses were pretty bad in that game but Philly made ONE great play.....you guess it, a sack of Brady and that's right there sealed the game for Philly. You need pass rushers and we added one!!

Ozzy rules!!
