Five issues from the long, laborious search for the Dolphins' new general manager:

1. This wasn't a good time for Joe Phiblin. New England's Nick Caserio and Tennesse's Lake Dawson wanted the control over Philbin's future. Much of of that is they wanted control of their own futures. But considering they turned down the job when that control wasn't given, it also says they weren't entirely comfortable marrying Philbin or trusting team owner Steve Ross with the decision on the coach. And why should they? What have either done to inspire trust? Philbin may go on and be a great coach. But he's looked ordinary, at best, through two seasons.
2. How will this affect Dolphins free agents, if at all? There is grumbling from players about the way this search played out. That's expected. Everyone wants to work for a first-class organization that delivers the best chance to win. And who doesn't grumble about the place they work at times (besides me, boss). The question is if this will have anything to the decisions from top free agents like cornerback Brent Grimes or the defensive tackles, Randy Starks or Paul Soliai. Answer: Not at all. They'll go where the money is.

Not sure I would have trusted Dawson or Cesario to pick the right coach this late in the game. They likely would have gone within their limited comfort zone. Neither have the gravitas to lure a big name coach (Cowher, Gruden) out of retirement.
It likely would have been a 1st time HC working for a 1st time GM. Not a comfortable scenario if you ask me.

Definite indictment on Philbin. He looked like an average coach at best this year. Everyone alive could see this except for Ross apparently.

Actually, I think Cesario really liked Philbin and would have wanted to work with him. However, I don't think candidates look at this for just one season or two...but long term. It is about having 100% control of your future as it relates to the coach. They don't have that now in their current jobs and would not have had that if they got this job.

i would believe they would say hey if i can work with him THIS YEAR but what if he sucks down the stretch like he did last year, Can I hire my own coach

and look in the way of Cesario Im not confident in his ability to bring in anyone BUT NE coaches who SUCK for anyone but New England

We can't make the assumption that anyone likes or dislikes Philbin. We have no idea. We do however have an idea of what kind of coach he is based off of his teams performance.

Reports are all over the place. I don't think we'll really know for a year or two. Not to beat a dead horse, but a quality GM wants to at least be able to consider his options. So we'll see.

IMO, the Cesario thing works both ways. He got insight into th Dolphins front office and they got insight into Cesario's(Patriots') philosophies on talent

I DONT GET ALL THIS.

it was said LONG before the first interviews philbin was going nowhere.

all these candidates knew this before they came to interview so i dont buy into ANY of the "they all wanted philbin gone". nonsense!! as ceserio said himself, he didnt didnt say a word about philbin, he likes him. but people are still going on and on and on about how ceserio and others wanted philbin gone and when ross said no they bailed. people still want to believe te media rather than out of the guys own mouth!!

more media vendetta.

It's been pretty widely reported* that with Caserio, anyways, he was OKAY with Philbin and willing to work with him but wanted the ability to remove him DOWN THE ROAD in the event that he underperformed.

The fact that Ross didn't allow for that is pathetic from the owners standpoint, in my opinion. It was a common sense request. I never had any ill-will toward Ross as our owner until this came out.

again......, who are all these players who say they want out. who are the players who didnt like the way the search went?

and how was this search any different than most other gm searches?

untill i see a video or or tv show with dolphins players saying they want out now and didnt like how the gm search was carried out [silly], then its all media garbage.

which it is.

but wanted the ability to remove him DOWN THE ROAD in the event that he under performed.

someone SHOW US where he actually said that. another rumor!!

when asked if he turned down the job [and he never said he was even offered it] because he didnt like philbin, his answer was no, i like coach philbin very much!

where is the video where we SEE ceserio saying he wanted to be able to fire philbin down the road? not saying it isnt there, but i for one am tired of all this media garbage and innuendo and flat out lies!! i want to actually see or hear one of these candidates saying the things the media said they heard [and the fans are taking as gospel!].
