He fits the profile. An undrafted free agent running back out of Arizona, he has the speed (sub-4.4 at the NFL Combine) and plays a position of immediate impact on an offense that needs big plays. He also fielded kickoffs in the Dolphins practice Monday night at Sun Life Stadium.

The reason Grigsby wasn't drafted are three-fold: 1) The injury question. He was hampered by shoulder injuries as a sophomore and senior; 2) He didn't show the receiving talent you'd like, catching 25, 12 and 13 passes in his last three years at Arizona; 3) Running backs with any questions are immediately discounted.

It's what he did when healthy as a junior that tells why the Dolphins are interested. He averaged 7.2 yards a carry, scored 13 touchdowns and had five 100-yard games.

Reggie Bush gives the dimension of speed to the backfield. Rookie Daniel Thomas is expected to be the between-the-tackles runner. Grigsby is one of several wild cards.

It's too early to say just what the Dolphins have in him. But put him on the to-be-watched list.

I've been to a few practices and he's made me turn my head a few times. I was wondering if anyone else noticed him....I kinda like him, but we'll see I guess.

This is a tweet from Armando earlier this morning:

Discussion on Armando and the Amigo: Third RB has to be special teams contributor.

Sounds like Grigsby has a chance to compete for the spot.

Grigs is better than Sheets. But this regime seems to like Hilliard a lot, and he is a special teams contributor. If Miami carries 4 RB's, Grigsby should make the team.

Thiugh Hillard is a plodder

True, he doesn't have speed. So that could be in Grigsby's favor. It's sometimes difficult to see how certain players will play on special teams because they were never asked to in college. Grigsby has the skill set, but we'll have to see if it translates.

As far as his lack of pass catching, it really had to do with a lack of targets. Arizona runs a spread offense, meaning 4 and 5 wr sets and A LOT of WR screens. With 4+ WR's on the field on almost every passing play, not to mention the fact that he played with Rob Gronkowski, one of the best pass catching TE's in the nation during his college career, he was a 5th option at best on passing downs.

It was nice to read positive and informative article on Miami. Typical preseason filled with people crying about not getting the one person they dream about in a dolphins uniform every night. I think we have built a solid foundation the last two years and in time this will result in 10+ win seasons. Henne is the question mark on this team and it is up to him to take the pressure of booing ingnorant fans and translate it into motivation. Dan Marino was great and I loved him however his number is retired for a reason. He will not be replaced so its time for Miami fans and personell to relate this in their search for quality at the QB position. Fiedler, Feely, Lucas and so on are were products of trying to make Dan Marino exist again. Overy analyzing anything can make it seem valuable.

From what I saw and liked, he's small, quick an super shifty. I feel like he could really take advantage of the small holes that a big back like Thomas wouldn't be able to fit through.

I really liked Grigsby coming out of college, living in Scottsdale Arizona during his whole career I saw quite a bit of him. Like I told my buddy my ONLY concern with him is the injury history but I love the way this kid runs when healthy. So I for one am pulling for him

I think we go into the season with Bush, Thomas, Hilliard, and Sheets/Grigsby. Probably Grigsby, I haven't heard anything about Sheets so far this training camp for whatever reason. I think they will keep Hilliard because he's so versatile, and can play ST's.

Either Grigsby or Sheets makes the squad...may the best man win.

Yeah, I went to U of A while he was there and watched all his games last year as well. The injuries are a bit of a concern, but Arizona's coaching staff has a history of being over cautious, and with Antolin and Nwoko as serviceable backups at Zona, there wasn't much rush to get him back. I think that he has a really good chance to make the team.
