This may be a totally crazy notion, but I had a thought.

Part of what has the Dolphins 1-4 was Saban hoping that Culpepper was ready to perform better than he did (in terms of being more mobile, and in terms of adapting better to pocket passing). It took us 4 games to find out, and for Saban to decide to sit Daunte til he is ready. So the real question is, did Saban wait too long to switch to Joey and give Daunte more time to heal and adapt his game too?

Well, I think what killed Saban, and us, was the schedule being weak. It sounds counter-intuitive, but because we played the lowly Titans we managed to eke out a victory. Well, that makes it hard to want to change QB's and gave us hope Daunte would be okay. Then with Houston coming up, why consider changing? Look at the week Brunell had against them before we played them. It should have been a very promising opportunity to continue Daunte's improvement against the worst defense in the NFL. So Saban keeps Daunte in.

My question is, if we had played New England in week three and the Jags or BEars in week four, would things have played out differently? I absolutely think so. I think our week three loss, putting us at 0-3 and with another tough defesnive opponent the next week would have precipitated Saban's move to Joey a game sooner. Would we have won that game? Who knows, since it would have been against a better team anyways.

Of course, IF that had happened then we'd still have entered game 5 with a 1-3 record, but probably better prepared to play with a QB that had a week under his belt in the offense.

This is ALL hypothetical and really pointless in terms of where we go from here, but I thought it was interesting that our weak schedule may have actually delaye4d Saban's switch to Joey and, perhaps, hurt us instead of helped us.

Um, what hurt us is that we are a really bad team, and it took us playing an even worse team to get a victory.

Lol. True. But there's only so long a fan can spend repeating the mantra We Suck.

Just trying to amuse myself until we have a decent team to watch.

We're going to have to put our hopes in Joey and the future, and look for a good draft next year, because the playoffs just aint happining this year. God this sucks!

Step 2 comes after step 1.

The first step in recovery, is admitting you have a problem. I don't want fans to boo the team, I love the Dolphins, I've been a fan of the worlds greatest professional sports franchise since George Wilson. But the team needs to know it stinks and that we know they stink. The Emperor is wearing no clothes.

I don't think any team in the NFL can overlook another team and just assume they are going to get an easy win. The Bears could lose to the Raiders if they just assume the game on paper gives them an easy win. The Colts almost got beat by the Titans last week. I think Miami just hasn't played very well. I think our defense plays hard and gives it a good effort, but penalties, turnovers and other mistakes always hurt us.

As if talking about all of this really matters (except for all of us trying to com to grips with the sad sad truth) I wouldn't say that they OVERLOOKED the texans. You are correct, the 'skins crushed them.......MOSTLY WITH THEIR RUNNING GAME!!! Sure Brunell had a good game, but most of his early passes were dump offs. When the phins played the Texans, the didn't attack their D with a running game....they only ran ronnie 8, count them, 8 times. Maybe MM and nick thought the texans D was so bad, c pep could use it like a scrimmage to work on his getting a feel for this system.

Can we get off this now, and move on?

If you compare how upcoming opponets played previously, which Jets team are we going to play sunday? The one that gave the Colts a run for their money, or the one that got 41 put on them by the Jags??

My opinion is that your first full paragraph is dead on. we're 1-4 because of saban choosing to go with daunte. i'm not bashing. i supported daunte when he was in there and i was hoping he'd regain his 2004 form, or close to it. but right now we're playing catch up and i hope we can use that to our advantage. corner a beast and see what happens. i wanna see some W's dangit. jets favored by 2, looks like my lifesavings will be on the line this weekend.

Coach Saban has been admitting the team had a problem all along. He has been making statements like "Daunte cannot do the things we need him to. He has to learn to trust his teammates and get them the ball. Daunte is going to take time. Daunte did not play well against Buffalo, a little better against Tennessee and a little better against Houston, but he is still not where we need him to be," throughout the season. Based on how guarded Saban is with the media the translation is "Daunte has sucked big time!" It is only the Daunte lovers that have ignored the comments and said it isn't his fault, it is the OL, Mularkey, not enough fan support, etc...So now coach Saban is trying to fix the problem by letting him ride the bench.

i personaly always have thought and still think that we play better against tougher opponents, i know some may think differently thinking that our 6 game streak last year for the most part was against easier teams however i saw a big difference in the way we played the texans and the way we played the patriots or the steelers nevermind who was the qb but just an observation in general

Saban Get's it, You Get It, the Dolphins Don't.

Yes, but the collection of Gold Bricks we call a team hasn't gotten that, yet. That equals 1-4.

It's all of the above.
