There was another post that posed the question if another NFL team moved to your hometown, whether you would still follow the Fins or root for that team. Many of us already have teams in or close to our cities, but choose to root for the Fins for one reason or another. Someone else in that post also suggested that the real question is whether you would follow/root for the Fins if they left Miami.

Here's my question:

1. Let's say the Fins left Miami and changed their names (similar to the Browns and Oilers of a few years ago) would you root for the new team? This would be the same players, coaches, etc., but a city and new team name.

2. Let's say you did continue to follow the team with a new city and name, but a new Miami Dolphins franchise was started (similar to Cleveland Browns part II) would you follow the new Dolphins Franchise with a whole new set of players and coaches, or would you follow the franchise formerly know as the Miami Dolphins that had the players and coaches you rooted for as Dolphins just a few years back?

Tough call…. I'm not sure what I would do.... I just hope it never happens.

If they moved they would be dead to me. I would still watch football, but wouldn't root for any one particular team.

1) i definately would... the history is still there, that can never be changed, and that is where my roots for fandom began... If Miami moved (same players, coaches. etc...) I would certainly still be a fan

2) I would still be a fan of the original dolphins that moved if Miami started a new franchise.

Being I am not from Miami, I am a fan of the team, not so much the city

If it was #1 same players, FO, owner, yes i would still love them, but not #2 because that would be a whole new franchise, unless the dolphins left the league for like X years, and new owner brings back the dolphins to MIAMI then yes i would still love the dolphins.

well if i was a brown fan i would never have became a raven so if the dolphins ever moved to L.A. i would wait and hope that some one brings a new franchise to Miami.

For your sake I hope it doesnt turn out like LA. youd be waiting for a very very long time. Even the city of cleveland had to wait 4 years after they moved to Baltimore before they were able to birth an expansion team. Even Baltimore had to wait 10 years before the Browns became the ravens

I'm not a Miami native, so it's not the city that matters. Not ever going to happen, though.

I would never do option 1. Option 2 is really where I would go, with a new set of players and front office.

I was born in NYC, raised for my first 16 years in Miami (73-89), and then traded a few years between NY and Miami (90-96) and now permanently a NY'er. My Attachment to the Dolphins was imprinted while living in Miami and most of my family still resides in Miami. Therefore, I associate Miami with the Dolphins and the Dolphins with Miami. They just won't be the same without each other.

Now if Miami would never again get a Franchise, then it's the New York Giants all the way.

First of all, I'm glad my post produced this spinoff thread. Second of all I would root for both teams.

i would never root for the team that left.. i would root for the new team when they got here...

If they left Miami and changed names, it would cease to be the team I love. I grew up cheering the Miami Dolphins. I am sure I would follow them for a while, but would gradually lose interest. I would try to latch on to another Florida team, but I am still mad at the Jags for taking fins tv rights and the bucs don't do it for me.

The only way would be just like the Browns if in a few years a new team moved in and took the namesake back. I don't think there are many former Browns fans who like the Ravens now instead, but I am not sure.

Same pretty much.

If they changed their logo and name like the Browns to Ravens or Oilers to Titans thing, then no, I wouldn't root them. But if it was like a Colts thing, where the Fins kept the name, then maybe.

if they got a new city and name would it be weird to still wear my dolphin gear
