Say great season and we'll seeya on 2010, It's Pennys job until Henne or Beck beat him out for it. I'll go out on a limb and say he starts in 2011, if Penny has another good season this coming year, I see them signing him for another 2 -3 yr contract and he'll end his career in Miami.
First, can we cross that bridge when we get there? Anyways, it's going to depend on how far Chad Henne has progressed in his two year apprenticeship under Pennington. If the front office feels he's ready, he will get the call.
I have to disagree....at that point Henne would be needing a new contract and no way the Fo lets him walk without seeing him play. No way Henne would resign to ride the bench behind this guy any longer.
Pennington's only shot to comeback in 2010 as the starter is to take this team to the super bowl. He doesn't have to win but if he can get us there he might get another 2 year deal in which he's given one year as the starter then being the backup.
Expectations for Henne are that he can do what Pennington can't. So unless Pennington shows he can do what is necessary to win a title we have to look to the guy who might be able to.
Let me offer up some serious advice; Don't think about it. If you do you'll realize if we make the playoffs again this season we'll probably exit in a fashion similar to last year with Pennington's arm not be able to beat an elite defense.
BUT, this is where I'll interject the good news.
Were in a best of both worlds mentality because we believe were assembling a team around two QB's. Whatever additions are being made will benefit the play for both Chad's. We can still aim for a title this year with Chad P. because we also believe our RB will be elite and our defense will be progressing more athletically.
For years we worried about QB situation and seemingly overnight a perfect scenario unfolded in front of our very eyes.
Pennington will get a much bigger contract from his next team and as long as Henne's good everybody wins.
He will have a great year and wel will graciously offer him a backup/coaching position or give him his wish if he wants to continue to start by trading him.
