I am really confused about this board!

So at the expense of possibly getting suspended from this board can some of you answer some questions for me?

In a recent post I saw a large warning message from I guess the system administrator. In this post from Ocer or some thing like that he posted a message by someone who is obvisouly NOT a dolphin fan. This message while seemingly proper and spell checked still was meant for one thing. That is to antaganize the other Dolphin fan posters on this board. So this administrator hypes this bills fans post even more buy giving him even a greater voice by using large bold capital print and "Daring" all of us to do something to get kicked bounced from this board. Thus giving this dude even more "in your face" power to offend us. So my question is this. While I dont personally suscribe to the sometimes childish behavior of name calling and smack talk, whats the point then? If fans cant find a home where dolphan brothers can huddle safetly together and jaw about our team without other punks coming in here and waving his finger in our collective faces and acting like the teachers pet then whats the point. Why do these guys troll the opposition teams sites if not to antagonize and taunt? Then if they get the protection of the administrator and the rest of us have to shake and be afraid, even dared to say the wrong thing to get kicked off then whats the point? I dont like to live in fear of what I may say when provoked. I know this is a "privtate" web site so I wont get into freedom of speech but you like to think the administrator of a Dolphin web site wouldnt get so jazzed about kicking his own. Maybe Im too new here but why not warn the non fan antagonizers not the red blooded die hard Dolphin fans?

I dont get it! Hope this stays on the board for maybe 5 seconds.

Just because it is a fins message board it doesnt mean a bills fan cant come on here and post. Was he antagonizing? Sure. But he wasnt name calling, or being an idiot about it. Refute his post and move on, no need to call him names.

There's your problem right there. Instead of giving the guy a chance....or *gasp* debating the post.....you'd rather us just ban him. God forbid we have an alternate/descenting viewpoint.

The guy had a strong viewpoint. You have a strong viewpoint. But because he's not a Dolfan, he shouldn't have the same rights??

The guy was looking for intelligent conversation. He repeatedly stated they they were his opinions. And he prefaced his thread, pleading for intelligent conversation. The first response was anything but. And things slid downhill from there. Sadly, that is all too common. But if you were antagonized by that first post and felt compelled to ridicule or hurt insults, then you are part of the greater problem that plagues this board.

And the fact that you think that we "get all jazzed" about "kicking our own" doesn't say much for you.

If you must know, the vast majority of the disciplining we do is Dolfan on Dolfan "crime". Not suprising on a board of this size. But more often than not, a Dolfan is the one who starts trouble with the rival fan, not the other way around. That's just the way it is. There's more of us than them. If you visit rival board, it's the same way (Jets/Bills fans starting trouble with Dolfans).

The moderator didn't "dare" anybody to do anything. That would be antagonization, the very thing you're complaining about. No, the moderator gave a stern warning that further misbehavior would carry heavy consequences.

Do you realize that the large bold print you see was added many hours after the thread had originally been posted?? And I must have missed the part where the moderator warned Dolfans only.

Maybe they just enjoy "getting out" and looking at what's going on elsewhere. Or perhaps they like to get a pulse on what's going on with other NFL teams. Maybe they're just bored. I personally browse GangGreen and BillsZone from time to time (moreso when I wasn't Staff and busy). Do I antagonize?? Of course not.

Perhaps you'd like it if we banned Clumpy. You know, the guy that does our salary cap page. A guy who, by the way, is a 3X Premium Member. That means he's purchased a Premium Membership three years straight. Not only that, but he's generously paid more than the price of the membership and refused to be given change. Not bad for a Bills fan.

Sure some people are trolls. But you cannot generalize. Some of our breathren here are guilty of the same thing (trolling on other sites).

That's your problem, not ours. I'd suggest downing a chill pill and utilizing the Ignore Function, which is linked in my signature.

And we'd like to think that all of "our own" could exercise good judgment, common sense, and a little restraint at all times. But that just isn't the case.

You don't even know who was disciplined in that thread, do you. Rest assured, nobody got off scott free. Not even your target in this very thread.

Finally, if you don't like the way this site is run, I'm sure you can find another site out there that promotes hostility towards rival fans. You can be as diehard as you want here. Just as long as you respect the rules we've set forth.

FYI, -- I'm the moderator who responded to the threads you mentioned.

Please be assured that you'll be safe from knee-jerk trolling and smack comments from fans of other teams in the main forums here. When the staff sees inappropriate behaviors of those kind here, we deal with it. If you see it, please click the "Alert" triangle at the bottom-left of the post in question to make us aware of the problem.

There are some close calls and shades of gray in the interpretation of the rules, member posts and members' intentions. The general philosophy we apply is that any member in good standing is allowed to post in the Dolphins forum as long as their posts conform to the house rules. We apply these rules evenly. The idea is that fans of other teams are welcome to post here and discuss topics appropriate to the forum they're posting in. We're just not going to prohibit fans of other teams from posting in the main forum; -- but we will keep them on a tight leash.

We will draw lines on such things as "smack" style comments in any setting EXCEPT the Depths of the Sea. If anyone here repeatedly posts antagonistic, meritless smack comments in the Main forum, for instance, we will either limit their posting privileges to the Depths or even ban them entirely.

Another issue we guard against is referred to as "hijacking". This is when, for example, a Bills fan posts in threads in the Dolphins Forum, -- and repeatedly leads the discussion toward the topic of the Bills. You've seen it. When you do, please notify a mod and we'll get it straightened out.

Go back and look at the posts in the threads that concern you. Look at the posts for which warnings or suspensions were imposed. Then review the house rules (the TOS). You will see that sanctions were imposed for violations of site rules. If our members simply followed the rules, they'd be in the clear. And that Bills fan would be limited to substantive discussion of Dolphins football -- with mods watching him carefully to see that it's not a matter of trolling, hijacking or smack.

While Muck's and P4e's answers were both accurate and timely... What really doesn't help your credibililty, is that you wait an entire 9 minutes between your initial post, and the one above... as if this all volunteer staff has nothing better to do at 1:30am EDT than to sit here and wait for you to speak your mind?
Afraid? of what? a newbie who hasn't bothered reading the TOS?
Who are you calling out? The Staff? and you have the nerve to talk about a Bills fan being "antagonistic"? :rolleyes:
 
Dolfan's tend to be a little too quick to jump at our rivals fans. I didn't read the post that y'all are talking about. I'm just speaking of the board in general.
