According to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero, Philbin, whose contract gives him final say over firing and hiring assistants, did not want to fire Sherman. But Ross wanted Sherman out and Philbin relented.

If Joe could not see that Sherman was a major problem on this offense, he does not deserve to be the Head of this team. As a HC you have to make tough decisions all the time and if you are unwilling to do it because of personal loyalties, step down and let some else lead that will put the team first.

Armando has no clue how this was decided.

Joe will be gone next year, when we finally clean house.

It's well known that Philbin has final say in his contract when it comes to coaching decisions. It's not a stretch to assume that Philbin had to be convinced that it was in his best interest to let Sherman go...

I am convinced the Joe will lay the foundation to draft Jameis Winston next year. It is going to be a long year.

Philbin showed too much respect to Sherman through the season and it showed -> LESSON LEARNED -> keep friends and business apart

I don't care anymore. Im making my new suck 4 luck >>> Winless 4 Winston - Im all aboard this train

I really think this team could be awful next year. I cannot take this.

I just wish there was someone in the organization who would stand up an explain why Sherman was fired, but the man who hired him and gave him his gameday marching orders gets to keep his job. Sherman was clearly a problem, but it was a problem that this head coach with an offense-minded background could have easily fixed.

"Hey Mike, we need to change things up, stop abandoning the run, get Tannehill out of the pocket, move Wallace around, stop using go-go-go..."

Any number of suggestions could have changed the path of the Dolphins offense. As with personnel decisions, Philbin escapes any blame.

I don't get it.

If they are its almost assuredly because Tannehill isn't what we hoped so better to find out sooner than later. I'd much rather go 1-15 and get the next top QB than finish 8-8 again anyway.

Sherman used to be the Head coach of the Packers and he was the one who gave Philbin his 1st NFL coaching gig. Part of the reason he didn't want to fire him, is due to loyalty and sympathy to an old friend, most likely.
