I was enjoying a lovely day off in Minnesota (8 degrees far. outside) and I was just thinking about the many things I am thankful for this year. The #1 without a doubt was the birth of my son in May, Cameron Phoenix. He his without a doubt my new football buddy. He has is own jersey, football, and blanket which he proudly sports each Sunday.
Now though I turn my attention to the phins and that of which I am most thankfull for this calendar year.
1. The hiring of Ireland and Sparano. Ireland knows how to evaluate talent and Sparano knows how to get the most out of it. They were also smart enough to know that a coach is only as good as his assistats and the people who help him.
2. The draft and draft day trades. Need I say anything more than Long, Merling, Henne, Langford, Fasano, Ferguson, Ayodele, Thomas, Murphy, Carpenter, Bess.
3. The signing of Pennington. I was a little worried he was washed up and his arm was shot. However, this team needed a leader and a veteran presense on the offensive side of the ball. Remember when we could have began week one starting a neverwas in Beck or possibly a neverwillbe in Henne at the helm, that made me really nervous. I personally think Henne is going to be a great qb in the NFL after learning from CP, but until he proves it in a game we will not know.
4. The wildcat. Everyone called it a gimmick offense. Now, almost every team in the NFL has a version of it in their playbook.
5. The re-emergence of Joey Porter. You ran your mouth off stating you should easily get 10 sacks. I would have been more than happy with that, but you more than outdid yourself with 17.5 and became the focal point of our defense.
6. An 11-5 season and first place in the AFC east. Take that Bret's Cheatriots, and Chris Berman's favorite team. After going 1-15 last year I thought 8-8 would be quite an accomplishment, but this year was amazing and beyond anything I would have soberly predicted.
I think these pretty well sum up the season, anything else you can think of.
