Honestly,
A lot of people are up in arms because we got David Garrard. I really don't get that because I feel like he's a low risk high reward guy IF he's healthy and can duplicate what he did in Jacksonville a few seasons ago. They're bringing him in as a backup, someone to compete with Matt Moore for the starting job - another smart move. Yes neither of these guys is a FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK but the perception that this year was flooded with franchise quarterback's is so off-base. If there is one area that Jeff Ireland has made the right call, I feel that it's here.
The PROBLEM is Ireland didn't make this call.
He tried for Manning. Failed.
He tried for Flynn. Failed.
He tried for Fisher. Failed
He tried for Harbaugh last year. Failed
Ryan Clark is saying, who the hell wants to play in Miami when they have Jeff Ireland? THAT has become apparent, nobody does. Not the "sexy" talent out on the market anyway. He's gotta go. He's completely inept. We all know this. But it's kind of interesting that through his futility he's probably made the RIGHT decision on Quarterback here. People may not agree with this, I know everyone loves Manning especially, but I just don't like his health. You cant invest and count on someone like that at his age. It's another Chad Pennington waiting to happen, he might play well, he might make great decisions, but his body is GOING to fail him.
And of course you don't want to over pay for Matt Flynn either.
Matt Moore played ok last year. I think he can do it again this year. I really hate the return we got for Brandon Marshall, but with him out of the offense it could be a positive thing for Moore. And if not, Garrard battles him for the job and comes in and takes it - If he's healthy, he could be a solid option.
Either way it doesn't matter, this team will not be competitive this year. And then with a high round pick next year perhaps you can look into drafting a FRANCHISE quarterback who will perhaps be available as the Redskins and Colts will do this year.
