I don't like Ethan J. Skolnick

Just look at his picture. He looks like a kid who got stuffed in his locker all throughout school by football players and he is still bitter!

like i said in a previous post about these blowhards... they HAVE to submit a story, even when there is no story... per order of their editors...

you can imagine the stretches they have to conjure up some days.... even when they're not feeling "creative"

Skolnik's column's are all the same. He whines about everything! There's 2 extremes in sport journalism: the ex-jock that "talks tough" but says nothing and the sports reporter who barely played sports but tries to be senstiive. Skolnik is tender and sensitive. You should hear him fuss and quibble on the radio shows. He's a 'wuss".

I think you have to understand that just because someone works for the sunsentinel or whatever Florida newspaper they arent Phinfans. They arent going to predict greatness or gush over Saban and the team every article. This article wasnt terribly exciting to read and really didnt say much but I dont have a big problem with the guy.

Am I missing somehting? What was so bad about the article? It had no substance but was overall pretty harmless....no?!? :confused2

BTW - he's a member of this board. I've spoken with him. He's not a bad guy. And Press Coverage is right - when they're told to submit something they have to.

Hmmm, it seems to me all he was saying is that Miami isn't ready for the playoffs but they are ready to improve and now is the time to point them in the right direction FOR improvement. I don't always agree with any of the sports writers, but I don't see what the fuss is about this article - especially since there is not much to report on until the day before, of, and after the game.

Yea, he and I had some communication via e-mail once after I criticized him for his writing. Nice guy! He was very open and candid. Actually, I think that he's paid to write opinion articles moreso than anything else. Recently though, he wrote a more substantive article on Saban which included interviews with the Niktator himself and quotes from several other sources. He did the same following the blockbuster Miami Heat trade. I only wish he would combine substantive interviews with his opinion articles a bit more but my impression is that it is not part of his job duties/description/tasks. It's mostly IMO commentaries. Too bad because it would improve those articles. He's getting better though.

At least Skolnick doesn't depend on rumors from un named sources for a story.

Leave that to the 5 reporters high fiving each other at a bar over Miami missing the playoffs the year before...

Ej is alright. I didn't find his article offensive. I agree with Press Coverage, some days it must be hard as heck to find something to write about. I struggle in college even when the professor gives us guidance. I don't thing I could handle the deadlines sports writers and journalists in general have to adhere to.

I don't get the whole thread here. He's affirming that we should pay attention to what could be a painful season. The overall tone of his article is rather positive. The negatives are explaining how we got into this mess.

"Only five remain from the 1999 through 2003 drafts."

Doesn't that say a great deal about how we got here.

Am I reading the same article?? Seems fine to me. Would anyone care to elaborate on why it was so horrible and he should be barred from writing??

Also, Ethan is a columnist rather than a beat writer. He's paid to write opinion pieces.

I agree with Muck.

The article seems fair and reasonable.

Also, I have found Skolnick to be a pretty good columnist.

I found it quite good. Not only do I think EJ is good but if you email him he'll respond and he has been seen at finheaven events before. Oh and he reads these boards.... EJS we got your back :goof:
