I don't understand the logic behind the Matt Hazel draft pick. Mel Kiper Jr specifically mentioned that he like the 6th round pick. Consensus is that he's got good hands and is a decent route runner, but we seem to have a plethora of good WRs on the roster in Hartline, Wallace, Gibson, Matthews and now drafted a stud in Landry in the 2nd round (not to mention Damian Williams who we signed from the Titans and Armon Binns who was also a decent development prospect before he got injured last season). So why do you think we drafted Hazel? Is he a Special Teams ace?

He is a very good Redzone target - something we are sorely lacking.

Push the vets and I'm guess somebody's surgery didn't go as planned.

At this point it definitely would appear something is going on here. Is it the health of the injured wide receiver(s), the fact that they are not happy with someone Wallace, Matthews, or there planning ahead for when contracts expire next year. There has been speculation of all these or maybe it's a combination of things, but their actions tell us something is going on. I really hope we can score some more points and have some more explosive plays whoever lines up.

They are likely seeing the contracts of Gibson and Hartline as expendable in 2015, opting to release one or both of them and bring in a 2nd year guy.

Hazel and Williams are depth. You want tons of competition. What are we worried about? Having TOO many good receivers under contract? Green Bay seemed to do okay :p

I was thinking the same thing. I can remember when we had Hartline and Devone Bess and some other guys as our WR corp. Too many good WRs is a great problem to have.

Yes true especially after some of the WR groups we have had to endure the only question is at what point does it become "we could have addressed another position of need" thought especially if only so many will be on the final roster. Just think there is a little more going on here at this point but only they really know the answer to that.

WR was very deep in this draft. Maybe he is really 3-4th round talent in a normal draft but dropped to the 6th here. Probably has a lot of upside and may surprise some people in camp. Extra Comp doesnt hurt either. Late rounds is when its best to go BPA. Thats how you nail sleepers. He was probably a sleeper pick for us.

Thats just my guess.

I was about to say this.
There's a lot of money tied up right now in the WR position, what with Wallace's crazy contract, and Hartline and Gibson each gettin paid well too.
Hazel seems like good (developing) insurance in case it's time to part ways with the starters.

I never understood why people complain about picks later than say a 4th round pick. Outside of a kicker or punter, you can't expect anyone to contribute soon if ever. I'm not saying it's doesn't happen but it's nothing you would expect to happen. You don't draft on needs. I wouldn't even say you drafted on best player available. More like best potential available. Every single player left has major flaws according to all scouts. You drafted on the players with the highest potential at that point. Not much else you can do.
