Greg,
I’m a life-long Dolfan from Delaware. I’ve read plenty of articles written by you, but I have to say; this is the worst fair weather fan article I’ve ever read. Long before the Heat, Panthers, or Marlins were ever thought of; the Fins became one of the most successful sports franchises in any sport. I don’t have to go into the history of the franchise; I am sure you are already aware of how rich the tradition is. In one part of your article, you were trying to understand the logic of why the Dolphins are so popular. You wrote, “Maybe it's just a habit. Maybe it's just a matter of the Dolphins having been around the longest. Maybe it's just a first-love kind of thing that's difficult to shake.†You are wrong on all three thoughts. It’s called LOYALTY and PASSION. Something I doubt you have for any of the South Florida teams, after all; you chose your team by who is the most “compellingâ€Â, right? The Dolphins franchise is the pride of South Florida and how dare you doubt the passion of its fans. The Dolphins had one losing season; that does not mean we are going to the games for only the “game day environment†to tailgate. Maybe you would do that, but not real Dolfans. We go there to watch our favorite team. If the Dolfans were less than passionate about their team, than there definitely would be a decrease in ticket sales. Who would want to waste their money on a team they have no interest in watching? I don’t fly down to Miami 2 times a year to tailgate; I go there to watch my team play, and to get a chance to see my favorite players in action. Sam Madison, Zach Thomas, and Jason Taylor are star players. They have enjoyed success at their positions being named to Pro Bowl teams, plus they are pillars to the South Florida community by forming charities, fund-raisers, and pitching in with community programs. If that doesn’t qualify them as stars, than I don’t know what will. Dolfans will never turn their back on the Dolphins because they had a losing season. We will continue to be there for them, cheering them on; win or lose.
It’s obvious you don’t understand the concept of loyal fans; you can learn something from loyal and passionate Dolfans at Finheaven.com.
